Location: This position will work in a hybrid model with both work from home (remote) days each Monday & Friday, as well as on-site days at the West Des Moines, IA office each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Zirous offers a flexible schedule so that you can work to meet clients needs and your personal needs. On-site days as described will be required for this role, local candidates within the Des Moines, IA metro will be given priority.

What You’d Be Doing:

Zirous is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Network Engineer to join our team, with a primary focus on configuring, deploying, and managing cloud-based network environments that support large-scale data projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud, or GCP), automation tools, and network security, and will play a critical role in ensuring high availability, performance, and security of data-driven cloud operations.

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable and secure cloud network architectures to support data analytics and engineering workloads.
  • Configure and manage virtual networks, subnets, VPNs, firewalls, and security groups across cloud platforms (e.g., AWS VPCs, Azure VNets).
  • Collaborate with data engineers and DevOps teams to optimize cloud environments for performance and reliability.
  • Automate network configuration and monitoring using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues within cloud-hosted environments.
  • Ensure cloud network compliance with internal security standards and industry regulations.
  • Manage role-based access control (RBAC) and policies to safeguard cloud infrastructure resources.
  • Participate in architectural reviews, capacity planning, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Stay current with emerging cloud technologies and recommend improvements for continuous optimization.

This position will support infrastructure and cloud services for clients.

  • Work on a variety of client projects as a full-time employee of Zirous - length of projects and types of client industries will vary.
  • Research and development of applications to support client projects.
  • Resolve technical issues through debugging, research, and investigation.
  • Work closely with Project Managers & Technical Leads to ensure successful project implementation.
  • Provide expert and specialized hands-on technical support, consultation and coaching to clients.

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in network engineering, with at least 1-2 years in cloud-focused roles.
  • Proven expertise in cloud platforms such as;  Azure (preferred), AWS, Oracle Cloud, or GCP.
  • Hands-on experience with IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation).
  • Deep understanding of cloud networking concepts: routing, NAT, DNS, peering, load balancing, S2S VPN’s, and security.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Datadog).
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills and be able to debug and analyze issues to resolution.
  • The ability to interact with clients in order to maintain good standing which includes, but is not limited to; assisting in gathering requirements, answering questions, and participating in implementations.
  • Ability to demonstrate organization and documentation skills
  • High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities

  • Excellent communication skills, analytical ability, good judgment, and the ability to work effectively with staff.
  • Position will work closely with other team members and VP of Cloud & Managed Services to accomplish company, client and personal goals.

Preferred:

  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Advanced Networking, Azure Network Engineer Associate, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery).
  • Knowledge of container networking (Docker, Kubernetes).
