AFRY Finland Oy is seeking an International Environmental Consultant to strengthen our multidisciplinary team working on complex, sustainability-driven assignments across the globe.
We are looking for a professional with solid experience in International Finance Institution (IFI) -funded projects, particularly in International Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs), Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD)/ Environmental, Health and Safety Due Diligence (EHS DD), and related compliance assessment work aligned with IFC Performance Standards, EBRD ESRs, Equator Principles, EU regulatory requirements, and other international frameworks. This is a unique opportunity to join a leading European consultancy, contribute to high-impact infrastructure and energy projects, and support clients in achieving regulatory compliance and sustainable performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and/or contribute to international ESIA processes for large-scale infrastructure, energy, transport, industrial, and environmental projects.
- Conduct or support Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD)/ Environmental, Health and Safety Due Diligence (EHS DD) assignments for IFIs, lenders, and private investors.
- Conduct or support Environmental Due Diligence (EDD)/ Environmental, Health and Safety Due Diligence (EHS DD) assignments in relation to mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
- Coordinate environmental and social workstreams in multidisciplinary project teams.
- Engage with clients, IFIs, authorities, local stakeholders and subcontractors in various countries.
- Prepare high quality technical documentation, including ESIA reports, EDD reports, management plans, and monitoring frameworks.
Qualifications
What you bring
- Strong experience in international IFI-funded projects, especially ESIA and/or ESDD assignments. Experience in environmental projects in the energy and/or industry sector.
- Proven capability to interpret and implement international environmental and social safeguards and environmental regulations.
- Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multicultural environments.
- University degree in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, sustainability, environmental law, social sciences, or a related field.
- Willingness to travel internationally, as required by project assignments.
- Fluency in English and Finnish; additional languages are an asset (Russian, Swedish, others).
