About Humane Association
American Humane Society was founded in 1877 to protect animals. We rescue animals, provide care, set humane standards, and support conservation. Each year, we protect over a billion animals. Our programs include direct rescue, supporting military working animals, and certifying humane treatment in various sectors.
Our certifications cover over a billion farm animals, 500,000 animals in zoos and aquariums, and ensure “No Animals Were Harmed®” in Hollywood productions. We also develop third-party animal welfare audit programs for farms, zoos, aquariums, ecotourism, and companion animals.
We advocate for animal protection and welfare, and share educational resources like streaming content, newsletters, and publications on compassionate cooking. We have offices in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Palm Beach. Internationally, we operate through Global Humane Society in Brussels and London, and the Global Humane Conservation Fund of Africa in South Africa.
