Job Description
We are currently seeking a Senior Construction Safety Officer to join our team based in Toronto, Ontario. The Senior Construction Safety Officer will be responsible for supporting Health and Safety compliance activities by working closely and in collaboration with Project Managers and Construction Managers in all stages of the assigned Projects to proactively plan by developing, implementing, and managing strategies for the safe execution of the works and have the opportunity to work on the Metrolinx, Ontario Line Project.
Bantrel Infrastructure, is a key sub-vendor to Bechtel, have been appointed the Delivery Partner within an integrated team with the customer, Metrolinx, for the Ontario Line Subway (OLS) Project and will work in a Delivery Partner role within an integrated team with the customer organization for a Subway Project in Toronto, Ontario. The project scope includes the design build, operations and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 15 stations and over 15km of new alignment, being performed by two key PPP Contractors and multiple advanced early works (EAW) packages Contractors and two large Progressive Design Build Contracts. The scope includes both managing the Works associated with the program and with the individual construction projects.

Job Responsibilities:
- Perform construction assurance and compliance activities on the assigned Projects,
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of performance metrics, including leading and lagging indicators, to evaluate and improve safety outcomes
- Develop and deliver safety-related training materials tailored to project-specific needs and workforce risk profiles
- Perform formal inspections and audits to ensure compliance with the relevant OHS legislation, standards and contract requirements,
- Monitor day to day for on-site construction work conducted by contractors to assess contractor compliance against the relevant OHSA legislation and contract requirements and provide advisory support in identifying hazards and recommending appropriate risk mitigation measures,
- Review site activities and provide support for the protection of workers as well as public, infrastructure, and operations,
- Engage, coordinate, and work with Integrated Project Team and internal/external stakeholders to provide consistent and continuous support,
- In collaboration with the Project Delivery Team and Contractors, review, analyze and outline construction activities and work areas to ensure safe and efficient delivery,
- Participate and/or support others with incident investigations, including follow up actions to ensure implementation of identified corrective actions,
- Manage day to day activities of Construction Safety Officers in the assigned Projects by providing guidance, technical oversight, and ensuring alignment with safety objectives and client expectations.
- Assist the Safety Director, Safety Manager and Project delivery team with other tasks as required.
Qualifications
- 10+ years’ experience in construction safety in heavy civil projects required
- Proven experience managing or coordinating safety personnel, including mentoring, and providing technical guidance to Construction Safety Officers
- Demonstrated experience in tunnel and shaft construction safety is preferred
- Experience in railway safety, infrastructure and heavy civil
- Strong working knowledge of Ontario OHSA Act and Regulations with an enhanced level of knowledge and experience in construction requirements.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience in managing multitasks and multiple priorities within time frames
- Ability to establish collaborative and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- NCSO or other designation is preferred.

Base Annual Salary: $125,000 - $155,000 CAD per year (Bantrel provides a competitive compensation package that reflects the skills, qualifications, and experience relevant to the role. The figures shared represent base salary only and do not include other elements of the Total Rewards offering. Final compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s experience and alignment with the role requirements.)
