About the role
The Senior Director, Talent Acquisition will set the vision and direction for Betterment’s recruiting function, ensuring we attract, hire, and retain exceptional talent as we scale. This leader will partner closely with People team leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to design and execute a cohesive recruiting strategy, while driving operational excellence, strong analytics, and inclusive hiring practices.
This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on oversight of recruiting execution, systems, and planning, and serves as a trusted advisor to the Chief People Officer and senior leaders across the business.
This role is based out of our NYC office. Below we’ve reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterment’s total compensation package for employees.
- New York City: $200,000 - $220,000

What You’ll Do
- Own the Recruiting roadmap in partnership with the Recruiting team, including prioritization, resourcing, ownership, and execution
- Set the vision and strategy for Talent Acquisition in alignment with business goals and workforce plans
- Drive alignment and buy-in across cross-functional and departmental stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of recruiting initiatives
- Translate business needs into scalable recruiting strategies that support both near-term hiring goals and long-term growth
- Delegate recruiting projects and initiatives based on recruiter capacity, level, and specialty
- Own delegation of open roles aligned to the hiring plan and ensure appropriate coverage across the team
- Monitor progress against hiring goals and proactively flag risks, tradeoffs, and mitigation plans to the Chief People Officer and key stakeholders
- Personally manage senior-level or specialty searches, as needed
- Drive alignment and buy-in from hiring managers and cross-functional partners to advance inclusive hiring outcomes
- Ensure the Recruiting team produces high-quality quarterly analyses and strategic recommendations
- Use data and market insights to inform hiring strategy, prioritize investments, and influence senior leadership decisions
- Ensure recruiting systems and tools effectively support business needs and recruiting strategy at each stage of scale
- Lead evaluation, optimization, and adoption of recruiting technologies to improve efficiency and experience
What We’re Looking For
- 12+ years of progressive experience in Talent Acquisition, with experience leading and scaling high-performing recruiting teams
- Proven experience building and executing enterprise-level recruiting strategies in a fast-growing, technology-driven organization
- Track record of translating business strategy into actionable recruiting roadmaps and measurable outcomes
- Deep expertise in recruiting operations, analytics, and systems, including ATS and related recruiting technologies
- Hands-on experience overseeing senior-level, executive, and specialty searches
- Demonstrated success designing and operationalizing inclusive hiring strategies with measurable impact
- Experience developing, coaching, and retaining recruiting team
- Exceptional judgment, communication, and prioritization skills in complex, fast-paced environments

What happens next

In the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our questions will be aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. Depending on the role, we may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, as we want to collect a robust set of data points to better inform our decisions.
On average, it takes us around 3-5 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 2-3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision. Please note that, as we usually receive an overwhelming number of applications for open positions, we’re unable to offer individual feedback during the interview process.
