We started Blockstream in 2014 to build infrastructure for the Bitcoin economy. Our work focuses on Bitcoin, cryptography, blockchain, sidechains, privacy technology, and other cryptocurrencies. We aim to make financial markets more efficient by reducing the need for trust. We develop technologies that enhance the Bitcoin ecosystem, helping individuals and businesses secure and transact digital assets more easily.

Our products include the Blockstream App, a wallet for Bitcoin and Liquid, and Blockstream Jade, a secure, open-source hardware wallet for self-custody. For layer-2 solutions, the Liquid Network enables digital asset issuance on Bitcoin, and Core Lightning offers a scalable Lightning Network implementation. Blockstream Enterprise provides Bitcoin custody, treasury, and tokenization solutions. We also contribute to the SimplicityHL developer ecosystem, which includes the Rust-based Simplicity implementation for building smart contracts and other Bitcoin applications.

Our mission is to build the financial infrastructure of the future using Bitcoin. We apply cryptography and security engineering to make financial markets more efficient by reducing the need for trust. Our focus is on long-term, robust, and scalable solutions, driven by ongoing research and development.

We believe in permissionless innovation, as it drives progress in the financial industry. We uphold the principle of “Don’t trust. Verify.”, which helps individuals and businesses control their finances and rely less on third parties. We also advocate for open finance for everyone, developing software to accelerate Bitcoin adoption and peer-to-peer finance for a more equitable financial system.

Blockstream employs 51-200 people, with over 100 individuals who are skilled in Bitcoin and bring diverse experience to the team. The team is globally distributed, with offices in locations like the Cayman Islands, Bay Area, Los Angeles, Montreal, Victoria, Lugano, Milan, Turin, Melbourne, and Tokyo, alongside a worldwide remote team.
