About Cal Poly Associated Students, Inc

We started in 1964. Student-led, we offer programs, services, and facilities designed to enhance the student experience at Cal Poly. Our services support the university’s academic goals and enrich student life. These include on-campus events, student clubs, student employment, and leadership roles in our Student Government. We also provide wellness programs, planning assistance through “The Planning Corner,” fitness schedules, and student legal resources. Specific programs include Aquatics, Intramural Sports, Poly Escapes, Rose Float, and the Craft Center.

We manage several facilities, including the Julian A. McPhee University Union, Cal Poly Recreation Center, Orfalea Family and ASI Children’s Center, Cal Poly Sports Complex, and Doerr Family Field. The Orfalea Family and ASI Children’s Center offers early childhood care to the Cal Poly community: students, faculty, and staff. It has six classrooms for children from infant/toddler age to Transitional Kindergarten, plus an art atelier. Our curriculum focuses on children’s interests and follows California Department of Education standards. The Children’s Center also participates in the Federal Child Care Food Program, meeting USDA guidelines for children’s nutrition.

Team & Culture

ASI employs over 550 Cal Poly students in various on-campus roles, with flexible scheduling. It also employs about 78 full-time and part-time career employees. The career staff is a supportive team dedicated to Cal Poly students. Students are stakeholders in ASI, with leadership roles available through Student Government and various employment options.

Student staff at the Orfalea Family and ASI Children’s Center are Cal Poly students from diverse majors. They receive training valuable for future careers or as parents. The Children’s Center teaching staff (head teachers and teachers) must have specific educational backgrounds, child development experience, and California Children’s Center Permits or early childhood education units. All Children’s Center staff undergo fingerprinting and background checks.
