Laboratory Manager Contract

Job Description

  • You will be responsible for the strategic management of our laboratory, including developing strategies to identify and manage risks.

  • You will also lead the planning of laboratory projects, advise the function leadership on future needs, and oversee the optimisation of space, equipment and technical services to support research needs.

  • You will interface with the building management team to oversee all laboratory-related matters, ensuring the infrastructure and space remains functional, safe, and fit for purpose.

  • You will manage space allocation, infrastructural needs, and health and safety compliance, while supporting research through effective facilities planning and coordination with the Research team.

  • You will be responsible for managing chemical, gas, equipment and consumable inventories by working with the in-house Procurement and Research teams.

  • You will oversee the management and operations of all technical services within the research laboratory, including line management of technical staff.

  • You may also be required to act as a First Aider and / or Fire Marshal.

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in an Engineering or Physical Science subject.

  • 7 to 10 years of working experience in a relevant technical or scientific facility/laboratory, ideally within Chemistry or a related field with at least 2 years in a managing role.

  • Proven experience managing technical teams and specialist facilities is essential, including coordinating major and minor works to agreed specifications, timelines, and budgets.

  • Demonstrable planning and risk management skills, with experience in developing and implementing strategies for laboratory facilities that support research needs.

  • Strong technical knowledge is essential, including expertise in chemical management and safety, understanding building systems and familiarity with health and safety legislation and compliance. Electrical and mechanical expertise are also advantageous.

  • You will also have excellent English communication skills and consultative approach, with the ability to work collaboratively at a senior level and deliver strategic priorities aligned with the functional and company goals.
