Compass Education

Founders John de la Motte and Lucas Filer started our company in 2009. We offer Compass, a web-based school management system with tools for attendance, student management, events, reporting, assessment, and payments. Our platform simplifies processes and reduces administrative burdens for K-12 schools.

The Compass system is used by millions of students, staff, parents, and alumni. We serve over 2,000 schools across Australia and internationally, including Ireland and the UK. Our offices are in Victoria (our head office is in Hawthorn, Melbourne), New South Wales (Sydney), Queensland (Brisbane), Western Australia (Perth), London, and Dublin.

In October 2025, we acquired Music Monitor, a platform for school music departments. This acquisition added specialist functions for managing instrumental lessons, ensembles, music workforce, resource management, billing, attendance, reporting, and student assessment. Music Monitor is used by close to 100 independent schools across Australia. We have also partnered with Edrolo, a comprehensive Years 7-12 teaching and learning resource provider.
