About Coney Island Prep

We founded Coney Island Prep in Brooklyn, New York, in 2009 as a college preparatory public charter school. We offer rigorous academics in a supportive and structured environment. Our educational approach includes character development and leadership skills to prepare students for college and careers. For STEM educators, we use platforms like Amplify, Imagine, Illustrative Math, Zearn Digital, and Eureka, and provide science materials and one-to-one technology for digital learning.

Our alumni in college have received $2.7 million in scholarships. Historically, all our high school seniors have been accepted into college.

Mission & Values

Our mission is to help students develop the academic skills and character necessary for success in selective colleges and universities, and the career of their choice. We achieve this through a rigorous academic program within a supportive and structured school community.

We are deeply committed to preparing students for college and careers, balancing ownership and responsibility with humility and levity. We believe excellence is a habit, and we are committed to academic rigor, high expectations, and comprehensive support for all students. We also value a holistic view of results, considering both academic outcomes and character important.

Team & Culture

Coney Island Prep has 201-500 employees. Its culture promotes mutual support and dedication to the school’s mission. Employees are fully committed to preparing students for college and careers. The environment is safe, fun, and nurturing, creating a positive, inclusive learning space where students feel valued and supported.

The school uses an Instructional Practice & Development Guide for in-house coaching to improve teaching. This guide focuses on areas like positive classroom culture, dynamic student engagement, equitable and accessible classrooms, academic ownership, and opportunities for students to demonstrate learning. A Leadership Competency Model guides non-classroom staff in supporting students, the school, and its mission.

Benefits & Perks

We offer the CI Place Fellowship, a two-year program that provides a $500 monthly housing subsidy for up to five teachers selected by lottery. This fellowship runs from August 2024 through July 2026 and requires teachers to commit to an additional two years of teaching with us.
