Overview
Thisnew role will involve working collaboratively with Cypress’ Asset Management division to manage environmental compliance and act as a subject matter expert for operating facility assets and constructed projectsentering the company’s fleet.The successful candidate will drive regulatory compliance for a large portfolio of construction and permanent stormwater and stabilization permits,focused primarily on operating assets in the Southeast region. The successful candidate will have a key rolein contributing to development of an asset management environmental compliance and permit tracking process, conducting a fleet-wide permit inventory review within the first 60 days.The successful candidate will be able to engage internal teams and regulatory agenciesin permitting strategies, provide key input to senior leadership to support joint decision making, and reduce environmental compliance risk.We are looking for a team member able to hit the ground running, who thrives in a dynamic,solutions-driven environment balancing regulatory rigor with operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Manage required environmental permit compliance and obligations for fleet operations across all U.S. markets to ensure full regulatory compliance and uninterrupted business activities.
- Conduct and maintain fleet-wide environmental permit inventory. Advise leadership on status and evidence of coverage, completeness of permit records, and site-specific actions needed to address gaps in compliance or documentation.
- Lead federal and state regulatory agency communication and coordination. Prepare formal communications for internal and legal review.
- Lead internal team coordination for developing site-specific stormwater and site stabilization permitting and compliance strategies.
- Collaborate with the Compliance team for logging, tracking, and maintaining records of permit coverage, registrations, inspections, and audits.
- Develop presentation slide decks and other materials for reporting to leadership.
- Serve as the receiving AM environmental SME ensuring a clear handoff from our EPCM team, the EPC contractor, and our development-stage environmental SME.
- Review plans for management of environmental obligations for construction close-out and operations. Plans include, but are not limited to stormwater management plans, spill pollution prevention plans, construction oversight plans for compliance with respect to wetland,biological, and archaeologicalcultural resource setbacks, species avoidance areas, and vegetation removal timing restrictions.
- Advise in development and implementation of programmatic procedures and best practices to ensure continuous compliance with existing and evolving national and local environmental regulations.
- Establish protocol and cadence for site-specific SWPPP inspections and quarterly permit audits. Manage environmental compliance site inspection workflow.
- Assist in development of protocols to manage ongoing obligation compliance, reporting, and registration renewal requirements during asset management. Advise on issues as needed.
- Review technical reports, drawings, and applications. Oversee external consultants preparing technical deliverables and engage with other SME groups, such as engineering, to support technical reviews of consultant-prepared materials.
- Prepare and submit registrations/NOIs/NOTs as needed.
- Advise asset managers and field technicians on environmental resource concerns and permitting requirements as requested.
Education & Experience Required
- Preferred certifications: CPESC, CESSWI
- Experience with SWPPP inspections or filing registrations/NOIs/NOTs
- Experience developing processes or best management practices for regulatory audits or environmental compliance programs.
- Understanding of permit compliance requirements in relation to Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracts.
- Exceptional record keeping skills.
- Ability for travel (less than 20%) to operational sites or agency meetings, when needed and scheduled in advance

Location: The position is open to our office locations in Asheville, NC and Durham, NC. Our team operates on a hybrid schedule, with in-office schedule of three days per week. Remote candidates will also be considered.
Compensation: The salary range for the position is $100,000 - $120,000 plus bonus and benefits. Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
