Job description

We Are:

At Data Society Group, we provide the highest quality, leading-edge, industry-tailored data and AI training and solutions for Fortune 1,000 companies and federal, state, and local governmental organizations. We partner with our clients to educate, equip, and empower their workforce with the skills they need to achieve their goals and expand their impact. Data Society Group publishes CDO Magazine, the preeminent global publication for Data Officers. Our executive boards include industry leaders, engineers, and data scientists from across the world. We are empowering the workforce of the future, from data literacy for all employees to support for data engineers and data scientists to train up on the most complex AI solutions and Machine Learning skills.

About the Role:

Are you passionate about teaching and sharing your real-world experience in data science and AI and based in Europe, preferably Germany? Join Data Society as a part-time, Data Science and Data Literacy Instructor to deliver high-quality, engaging instruction to professional audiences in government, defense, and defense-adjacent corporate environments through live online and in-person sessions.

As an independent contractor, you’ll enjoy the flexibility to teach subjects you’re passionate about while being supported by a collaborative and communicative team.  You’ll lead engaging, interactive sessions for professionals across industries and skill levels, helping them understand how to apply data science, machine learning, and AI in practical, impactful ways. Your role is not just to instruct, but to inspire—creating a positive and supportive learning environment where learners leave empowered and ready to act.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction to professional audiences in government, defense, and defense-adjacent corporate environments through live online and in-person sessions.
  • Instruct Data, AI, and Technical Literacy courses, including Data Literacy Foundations, Data Governance and Responsible Data Access, Excel-based data analysis, Power BI fundamentals, and introductory data strategy concepts, aligned to mission and operational use cases.
  • Facilitate executive-level Data Literacy courses, translating complex data and AI concepts into clear, decision-oriented insights for senior leaders and command-level stakeholders.
  • Lead virtual Data Literacy and Data Strategy workshops, including sessions delivered across time zones (e.g., Central European Time), ensuring strong engagement in fully remote settings.
  • Prepare thoroughly for each course by reviewing curriculum materials, learner profiles, and mission-relevant scenarios.
  • Use structured, interactive teaching methods such as scenario-based discussions, guided exercises, and applied case studies appropriate to audience seniority and technical depth.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers, data scientists, and fellow instructors to continuously refine curriculum content for accuracy, relevance, and effectiveness.
  • Capture and communicate learner feedback and operational insights to internal teams to improve course outcomes and delivery.
  • Engage with client stakeholders to identify additional training needs related to data literacy, governance, and data-informed decision-making.

What You Bring:

You are a credible practitioner-educator with experience operating in mission-driven, regulated, or security-conscious environments. You communicate with clarity and confidence, can adapt to senior leader audiences, and understand how data and AI supports operational planning, oversight, and strategic decisions.

Beyond technical execution, you are adept at navigating the unique complexities of military organizations to apply data science and AI concepts, actively working to dissolve data silos and foster a collaborative community of practice. Your approach ensures that data is not just a resource, but a decisive tactical advantage.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a US citizen based in Europe, able to travel to Germany for in-person sessions.
  • U.S. military background or experience supporting military, government, or defense-sector clients.
  • Experience delivering instruction, training, or workshops to adult learners in professional settings (virtual and in-person).
  • Demonstrated executive presence, with experience delivering briefings or instruction to senior leaders.
  • Familiarity with compliance-driven or regulated environments and mission-aligned use cases.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in one or more of the following areas:
    • Data Literacy and Technical Literacy
    • Data Governance, Responsible Data Access, and data stewardship
    • Data analysis and visualization in Excel
    • Power BI (foundational reporting and dashboards)
