Job Description

About Mission Bit

Mission Bit is a San Francisco-based nonprofit that inspires youth of color to explore the world of STEM with project-based computer science education that embraces their identities.

The role

As a Curriculum Developer, you’ll be responsible for designing our Intro to AI course for beginner high school students. Since the amount of coding in the course may shift, we’re looking for someone with strong curriculum design skills who can research, prototype, and help determine what’s age-appropriate and feasible—with or without heavy programming. You will report directly to the Curriculum Manager.

This is a hybrid, part-time, 4-month temporary role based in San Francisco, CA. In-person work is required at least once a week, depending on the program schedule. In-person work will include travel to the office and around the Bay Area.

Schedule

  • Monday through Thursday, generally from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM with some flexibility

    • Hours may vary based on organizational needs. Flexibility to adjust the schedule as needed
  • 25 hours/week

Duration

  • 4 months from the date of hire

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop a 6-week course for high school students, including lessons, activities, and projects
  • Translate technical concepts into accessible, identity-affirming, project-based learning
  • Research and recommend tools, platforms, and learning approaches (e.g., unplugged activities, low-code tools) based on student experience level and classroom reality
  • Create teacher/instructor-facing supports: facilitation notes, slide decks, pacing guides, check-for-understanding questions, and troubleshooting tips
  • Develop student-facing materials: worksheets, handouts, project briefs, rubrics, and reflection prompts
  • Prototype and test activities quickly, gather feedback from staff/instructors, and iterate
  • Collaborate with content experts and instructors to ensure materials are clear, engaging, and teachable
  • Support the curriculum team on related projects as needed

We’d love to hear from you if you have…

  • Strong curriculum development experience (this may include formal education, after-school programs, youth programs, or similar)
  • Experience designing for beginner learners and building materials that are clear, structured, and fun
  • Comfort doing research and synthesis (turning messy info into clean lessons and teacher guides)
  • Ability to explain technical ideas in simple, student-friendly language
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A self-starting mindset and ability to work autonomously with little oversight
  • Punctuality, organization, and preparation skills
  • Values aligned with Mission Bit and a passion for expanding access to CS/AI learning

It’s not required, but it’s a nice bonus if you…

  • Have a degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related discipline

  • Have subject-matter familiarity (through teaching, projects, coursework, or professional experience)

  • Have taught or built curriculum around AI ethics, data literacy, bias/fairness, or human-centered technology

  • Are innovative, dedicated, and flexible, with a willingness to experiment and iterate quickly

  • Accrued sick time-off

Compensation

  • $27/hour
