Cybersecurity Operations Analyst

🇳🇿 New Zealand - Remote
🔒 Cybersecurity🔵 Mid-level

Job description

  • Award-winning Cybersecurity company

  • Work with leading technologies and innovative peers

  • Work in a dynamic environment with opportunities for professional growth and development.

Ready to power the growth of one of New Zealand’s leading cybersecurity companies? At DEFEND, our mission is to create a cyber resilient world—and we’re looking for a Cybersecurity Operations Analyst to monitor, report, educate, and respond — protecting customers and securing their digital future.

About the Role

As a Cybersecurity Operations Analyst at DEFEND Limited, you’ll be a key player in safeguarding our clients’ digital environments. You’ll dive deep into real‑time threats, unravel complex security incidents, and help fortify systems against evolving cyber risks. If you’re passionate about cybersecurity and hungry to sharpen your craft in a dynamic, high‑stakes environment, this role will push you in all the right ways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor and triage security alerts across a wide range of platforms, tools, and environments—spotting anomalies, prioritizing threats, and escalating issues before they escalate themselves.
  • Dig into threat intelligence feeds and reports, identifying patterns, emerging attack vectors, and potential weak points that could impact client systems.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, from initial detection through containment and remediation, delivering clear, actionable recommendations that strengthen long‑term security posture.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for incidents, investigations, escalations, and post‑incident reviews—ensuring clarity, traceability, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, helping embed security best practices into daily operations, project work, and long‑term strategy.
  • Participate in vulnerability assessments and ongoing security reviews, helping identify, validate, and track remediation of risks across client environments.
  • Contribute to security awareness initiatives, helping design and deliver training that empowers clients to recognize threats and adopt safer digital habits.

What You’ll Bring

  • A strong grasp of cybersecurity fundamentals, including common attack methods, defensive strategies, and core security technologies.
  • Hands‑on experience with SIEM tools, with the ability to interpret logs, correlate events, and surface meaningful insights from noisy data.
  • Sharp analytical instincts and calm, structured problem‑solving, especially when dealing with time‑sensitive or ambiguous security events.
  • Clear, confident communication, capable of translating technical findings into language that resonates with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • A proactive, team‑oriented mindset, balanced with the ability to take initiative and work independently when needed.
  • Relevant certifications are a bonus, but curiosity, drive, and a willingness to learn matter just as much.
