The Staff Engineer is a hybrid role (we have an office in downtown Toronto) that blends architectural leadership with hands-on coding at the highest level of complexity. You’ll guide technical decisions across projects, mentor engineers, and influence system-wide architecture — while still diving deep into the most interesting and challenging coding problems across our suite of products. You’ll design and deliver enterprise-scale SaaS applications, mentor engineers, and help shape the future of our platform.
What You Will Do
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for enterprise-scale SaaS applications
- Contribute hands-on to the most critical coding projects, solving complex engineering problems
- Drive the design and implementation of Java- and cloud-based systems
- Ensure scalability, reliability, and security across distributed systems and RESTful APIs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical direction with business goals
- Write clean, testable, maintainable code and elevate team practices around testing and quality
- Mentor engineers at all levels and raise the bar for design, code reviews, and system thinking
What You Will Bring
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Deep expertise in Java (core Java, Java 8/11/17)
- Strong cloud platform experience (minimum 3 years in AWS)
- Proven success building and scaling web technologies / SaaS products
- Proficiency with SQL and relational database design; exposure to NoSQL a plus
- Experience with microservices, RESTful APIs, distributed systems
- Familiarity with DevOps, Docker/Kubernetes, Agile development
- Bonus: JavaScript experience and/or TDD background
