Job Description
The Lead, Tax role is responsible for completing compliance, accounting and reporting tax tasks for the organization. This individual is responsible for preparing and reviewing tax filings, reconciling data, and completing required audits. They may direct junior staff, ensuring quality execution.
Description:
- Prepare and review a variety of tax-related documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with guidelines and regulations
- Oversee timely daily, monthly, quarterly and annual tax reporting
- Ensure accuracy by reviewing and validating requests, filings, and reports and ensuring compliance with guidelines and internal controls
- Lead tax reconciliations through collaboration with necessary teams to ensure accurate data is captured across related systems and workbooks
- Collaborate with business areas to ensure data integrity
- Research and interpret existing and revised tax codes, laws, or forms to make recommendations to procedures
- Assist with responses to federal and state regulatory inquiries and audits
- Oversee management of the key processes and projects within the department
- Identify operational efficiencies automation opportunities to drive continuous process improvement, leveraging knowledge and experience to provide solutions
- Partner with key stakeholders as needed to ensure quality transaction analysis, data integrity, and operating procedures
- Comply with company and department policies and standards; performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of annuity taxation, withholding tax requirements and information reporting regulations
- Robust expertise of tax software systems
- Strong critical thinker including analytical skills with the ability to analyze and interpret financial information and trends
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly intermediate to advance proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Driven, team-oriented individual interested in working in high performance culture
- Continuous improvement mindset that leverages knowledge and experience to proactively identify and anticipate potential issues, while researching, brainstorming, and delivering solutions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- Ability to handle multiple complex tasks, prioritize, and begin prioritizing in fast paced environment
- Self-directed individual who works well with teams
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related area
Experience
- 5 + years of relevant experience
- Experience working in a regulated environment
- Experience in the financial services/insurance industry
- Relevant professional certification (CPA, CFA, CIA, CISA)
- Combination of education and experience considered in lieu of degree.
