Senior Associate Operations & Regulatory Infrastructure

Job Description

About finmid

At finmid, we’re building infrastructure that integrates access to capital for SMEs directly into the platforms they use daily. We leverage technology, data, and strategic partnerships to deliver financing solutions that significantly outperform traditional financial services - offering SMEs faster, simpler, and more transparent access to funding.

As we expand across Europe, our Latvian subsidiary, licensed as a European Crowdfunding Service Provider by the Bank of Latvia, plays a critical role. Our stack combines regulated financial infrastructure with modern software engineering. The gap between those two things is exactly where this role lives.

The Role

Build the operational infrastructure for a regulated lending product - from merchant onboarding and credit lifecycle through to partner integration and regulatory reporting. You’ll design the processes, automation, and controls that make finmid’s product work reliably at scale, treating regulatory requirements as design constraints rather than a separate workstream. The goal: everything runs smoothly, automatically, where possible, with clear visibility into what’s happening.

You’ll do this as an early member of a small, high-output team in Riga, working directly with engineering, legal, and product across Europe. You’ll have a lot of autonomy, but you won’t be on your own - this is a deeply cross-functional role, and you’ll be embedded with the people building the product.

The problems you’ll work on don’t have established playbooks yet. You’ll need intellectual range: the ability to move between regulatory text, process design, software tools, and management reporting without losing the thread.

What You Will Work On

  • Operational Process Design: Take messy inputs, regulations, partner contracts, product decisions, and credit policy, and turn them into clear operational specs that engineering and ops can build against. Define what must happen, when, triggered by what, and how you’d know it was done correctly.

  • End-to-end Automation: Design and build the workflows that make the product operate, onboarding, KYC/KYB, credit monitoring, collections handover, partner reporting, and regulatory filing. The target: processes that run themselves and escalate only when human judgment is genuinely required. You’ll work with engineering and product to decide what gets automated and where the boundaries sit.

  • Operational Monitoring and Reporting: Define what finmid needs to measure across its operations: processing times, exception rates, partner SLA adherence, portfolio quality, and compliance position. Set up the data flows, build the dashboards, and give management a live view of how the product is actually performing. Help manage regulatory reporting and correspondence with the Bank of Latvia.

  • Automation and AI Tooling: Find where automation and AI tools genuinely reduce workload, whether that’s document processing, data screening, validation, reporting, or regulatory change detection. Work hands-on with engineering to deploy the ones that actually work.

  • Internal Policy and Control Architecture: Build and iterate on finmid’s internal policies and controls that are version-controlled, clearly mapped to the processes they govern, and designed so that when requirements change, updates flow through the relevant workflows rather than getting lost in a document. Help stress-test operational processes.

What Your First 3 Months Will Look Like

  • Map every core operational process end-to-end. Identify where they break, where they rely on manual workarounds, and where the gaps are.

  • Get deep enough into the regulatory framework to design against it independently.

  • Kill at least one painful manual workflow. Replace it with something that runs itself.

  • Come to the team with a 12-month view of what the operational infrastructure needs to become - and a clear opinion on sequencing.

  • Get fluent with the AI tools the team uses daily, Claude, Codex, and whatever comes next, so they’re part of how you work, not something you’re still evaluating.

  • Build your first operational dashboard: pick a metric that matters, get the data flowing, and make it visible.

What you need to be successful (requirements)

Experience

  • 2–3 years in a structured, high-output environment - strategy operations, management consulting, fintech/startup operations, investment banking, or a similar setting where you were expected to design and build processes, not just follow them.

  • Bonus if you’ve shipped internal tooling, designed cross-functional workflows, or worked in a regulated product environment.

  • No prior compliance or law experience required. Regulatory knowledge can be acquired. Intuition for product and operations thinking cannot.

Capabilities

  • You can read complex requirements - regulatory, contractual, or product-driven - and extract the operational logic: what must happen, when, and how you’d verify it.

  • You have strong instincts for process design across teams - you understand handoffs, failure points, and how to close gaps between product, engineering, legal, and ops.

  • You don’t just design solutions but you drive them through to implementation. You know how to sequence work, hold people to deadlines, and make sure things actually ship.

  • You write with precision and can produce specifications, policies, and control documentation that are unambiguous and implementation-ready.

  • You’re practically curious about automation tools and willing to get hands-on with software, even without a technical background. In time, you will develop a clear-eyed view of AI tooling: where it genuinely helps and where it creates new problems.

  • You’re comfortable working with data: you can define what to measure,, interrogate a dataset, and build a view that tells a clear story. You don’t need to be a data engineer, but you shouldn’t be afraid of a SQL query or a dashboard tool.

Benefits

  • Early-stage operational role with direct access to product, engineering, and legal teams across multiple European jurisdictions — you’ll have unusually broad exposure to how a regulated financial product is actually built and run, not just one narrow slice of it.

  • Though generally we see ourselves as “distributed first”, this role is based out of Latvia, where you can work remote or on-site. Frequent travel to the Berlin office on a need-to-be basis is covered.

  • We are flexible and cover whatever you need to be as productive as possible.

  • Home office stipend.

  • 30 days time off.

  • Meaningful equity.

  • Open-minded and transparent culture that includes regular get-together meetings (e.g., All Hands, Brown Bag Lunch, Offsites)

We’re looking for people with passion, grit, and integrity. You’re encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn’t precisely match the job description. We welcome diverse perspectives and people who think out of the box and aren’t afraid to challenge assumptions. Join us.
