Friends of the High Line

We are a nonprofit that operates, maintains, and programs the High Line, a public park on Manhattan’s West Side. The park, built on a historic elevated rail line, features gardens, art, performances, and dining options. We also work to reimagine how public spaces can create connected, healthy neighborhoods and cities. Our annual budget comes almost entirely from donations. The City of New York owns the High Line, and we operate it under a license agreement with NYC Parks. Our teams include the High Line Network, which runs programs, raises the Network’s profile, and manages relationships with members and partners to promote fair access to public spaces and the reuse of infrastructure. Our Community Engagement team builds relationships with local organizations, cultural institutions, government offices, and residents across all five boroughs of New York City. We aim to connect diverse New Yorkers to the High Line and encourage their participation in our programs and events. Our Special Events team plans and executes fundraising strategies, including galas, cultivation events, and donor stewardship, with key events like the Spring Benefit and High Line Art Dinner, to secure our yearly revenue.

This means we focus on inclusive hiring practices and ensuring the High Line is a welcoming public space for all communities, especially by promoting fair access to public spaces and the reuse of infrastructure.

We have 51-200 employees. Our work environment includes hybrid roles, such as for the Manager on the High Line Network Team, Assistant for the High Line Network, and Manager of Community Engagement. We emphasize collaboration across departments and ensure our team goals support the broader organizational priorities. Our culture values using data to tell stories and evaluate our impact. Some roles, like the Manager of Community Engagement, require flexibility for evening and weekend work. Our leaders provide strategic oversight and work closely with trustees, major donors, and executive leadership.
