Job Description

This role contributes to a coordinated, student-centred approach to wellbeing, helping ensure students can access the right support earlier and navigate services more easily. You will work alongside experienced professionals across Griffith University’s Counselling & Wellbeing service, Health & Medical service, Disability & Accessibility, Chaplaincy and Student Safety & Wellbeing, to strengthen our response to student wellbeing concerns.

You will:

  • Engage with students experiencing distress or uncertainty
  • Undertake initial psychosocial assessment to understand needs and identify potential risks
  • Recognise and respond to concerns such as mental health distress, suicide risk or interpersonal safety issues
  • Provide short-term stabilising support and practical guidance
  • Facilitate warm referrals to appropriate university or external services
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support coordinated responses to complex student needs

You are a qualified social worker who brings strong interpersonal capability, professional judgment and the ability to work effectively with complexity.

  • A Bachelor or Master of Social Work and eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

  • Experience supporting individuals experiencing complex mental health, psychosocial or safety-related concerns

  • Capability in brief psychosocial assessment and early intervention practice

  • Confidence recognising and responding to distress or safely concerns

  • Strong collaboration skills in multidisciplinary environments

  • A commitment to trauma-informed, person-centred practice

What we can offer

This is a fixed term (12 month) full-time position, based at Griffith University Gold Coast or Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations.

Salary range

HEW level 8 base salary range $113,713 - $127,923 per annum + 17% superannuation. Total annual remuneration range $133,044 - $149,669.
