Job Description

The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Griffith University is the largest community of criminologists in Australia and is recognised as a leading department globally.

At Griffith, criminology is a multidisciplinary field of study, drawing on psychology, law, sociology, politics and human services. Our undergraduate degree is the only one in Queensland backed by ‘well above world standard’ research. That knowledge feeds into the most up-to-date study content, giving you the best skills for an employment edge.

The School is part of the Arts, Education and Law academic group, the largest and most diverse academic group in Griffith University encompassing creative and performing arts, education, law, criminology, social science and humanities. It represents a comprehensive academic group with a presence across all five Griffith campuses.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Lecturer (Level C) to play a vital role in shaping outstanding learning experiences while building a strong and sustainable academic career. You will contribute to high quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including work-integrated learning, and actively engage in scholarly research that advances knowledge in criminology and criminal justice. Applicants with research experience in the nexus between criminology and health, or digital technologies and crime, or First Nations justice are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to the advancement of knowledge through a balanced research portfolio of high-quality outputs that demonstrate impact.
  • Undertake high quality research that may have measurable impact on policy and practice in the wider community and attract and generate competitive research funding.
  • Foster an outstanding student experience and encourage active participation and engagement in learning and teaching across the spectrum of the University’s undergraduate, postgraduate and professional program suite facilitating high quality, student-centred learning activities consistent with Griffith Graduates of the Future strategy.
  • Continuously improve teaching practice through professional development and critical reflection informed by a range of evaluation approaches.
  • Inform the quality, innovation, currency and evidence-base of teaching and learning through scholarly activities, commitments and outputs.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based strategies that facilitate improved student retention, employability and successful outcomes for students.
  • Provide educational leadership to a discipline including responsibility for academic and work-integrated learning courses.

This is a continuing, full-time position primarily based at Griffith University Brisbane South (Nathan) or Gold Coast. As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other locations.  Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.

Salary Range

The full-time base salary will be Academic Level C in the range $138,702 – $159,936 per annum, plus 17% superannuation. The total package will be in the range $162,281 – $187,125 per annum.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish quality research.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to interdisciplinary projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing academic support and mentoring to students.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and engagement in scholarly activities relevant to teaching.
