Corporate Volunteerism Coordinator VISTA

Job Description

Host site:  Hunger Free America, 50 Broad St, New York, NY 10004

Term of service:  35hrs/week (generally Monday-Friday) for 1 year

Expected start date: August 10th, 2026

Work environment:  Hybrid- remote with occasional in-person events in NYC

Hunger Free America (founded in 1983 as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a dynamic and highly effective national progressive anti-hunger advocacy and direct service organization that is based in New York City but works in all 50 states.

The Nation has written that the organization has grown into “one of the leading direct service and advocacy organizations on hunger and poverty in the nation.” Our mission is to build a nonpartisan, grass-roots movement to enact the progressive public policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.

Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we have adopted the motto: “Ending hunger lifts us all.”

Hunger Free America’s Strategic Volunteerism Department is seeking a full-time AmeriCorps Corporate Volunteerism Coordinator VISTA. They will increase the national presence of Hunger volunteerism with companies, to increase the number of volunteers connecting to higher impact opportunities while raising funds for our work. This stipend position offers a great opportunity for someone looking to enter the non-profit sector, or someone who is retired and passionate about making a difference.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop new Corporate contacts through research and outreach.

  • Lead sessions of our signature Corporate event, Data Detectives, and collect feedback from participants and implement improvements.

  • Lead the organizing of our skills-based consulting events for Corporates and collect feedback from participants and implement improvements.

  • Lead the organizing of group volunteering activities as requested.

  • Working in partnership with our Development team, lead MLK Serve-a-thon sponsorship opportunities for Corporates

  • Create our communication newsletters forCorporate partners

  • Develop marketing materials as needed for the Volunteerism Department to promote Corporate partnerships

Preferred qualities:

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Experience in volunteering

  • Experience working in the for-profit/ Corporate sector a plus

  • Experience in recruitment, or partnership working a plus

  • Experience in project coordination/ event management a plus

  • Working knowledge of databases, and experience with Salesforce a plus

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent organization and team-building skills

  • Interest in social justice issues and addressing systemic issues of domestic food security

Program requirements:

  • Must reside within commutable distance to NYC (approximately 50 mile radius)

  • Must be 18+

  • Pass a national service criminal history check

  • Hold one of the following citizenship statuses:

    • US Citizen

    • US National

    • Lawful permanent Aliens and persons residing in a state that have the following classifications- Refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status.

Program Benefits:

  • Professional work experience with one of the nation’s most respected anti-hunger organizations
  • Living allowance, paid biweekly (currently $1,237.46  biweekly for a full 14 days of service)
  • Segal Education Award ($7,395) or End-of-Service Stipend ($1,800)
  • Opportunity to forbear or defer student loans while in service
  • Relocation Assistance (if applicable)
  • Childcare Assistance (if applicable)
  • Choose between reimbursement for healthcare or a healthcare plan.  Dental and vision are included.

$957.46 - $1,237.46 biweekly
