Overall purpose and responsibilities of the role:
As a Production Artist, you will be responsible for preparing and adapting artwork for production, ensuring designs meet brand standards and are optimized for embroidery and screen printing. You’ll handle logo placement, file cleanup, mockups, and quality checks to ensure accurate, high-quality output across all products.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Artwork preparation & adaptation
- Place and scale customer logos into approved templates and custom compositions across product lines.
- Convert and clean up files (e.g., vectorize, simplify paths, expand strokes, outline fonts) to meet production specs.
- Build color-correct mockups and proofs with accurate placement, scale, and callouts.
Decoration-method optimization
- For embroidery: plan stitch types/densities, convert art to stitch files (or prep for digitizing), set thread charts, minimize small details, and confirm underlay, trims, and tie-offs will sew cleanly. – Advantageous but not required
- For screen printing: create/verify separations, halftones/line screens, choke/spread, trapping, and ink counts; ensure mesh and ink selections align with substrate and art. - Advantageous but not required
Preflight & quality control
Validate resolution, vector integrity, color models (Pantone/spot, CMYK, RGB), and bleed/margins.
Check placement tolerances, scale, and readability
2 to 4 years in production artists or related
Experience working in apparel, promotional products, packaging, or print is advantageous.
Experience in using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop with basic understanding in minimum Stroke
Strong grasp of embroidery and screen-printing constraints (minimum line/stitch sizes, thread types, push/pull, registration, ink deposit, fabric interactions) is Advantageous
File prep mastery: vector cleanup, color management, separations, halftone fundamentals, and mockup accuracy.
Must have their own equipment (laptop/computer).
Meticulous attention to detail, organization, and version control; comfortable handling high job volumes against deadlines.
Nice to Have
- Experience with heat transfer, DTG/DTF, applique/patches, and specialty inks.
- Familiarity with apparel sizing/gradations and how art scales across sizes.
- Knowledge of color standards (Pantone Matching System) and fabric-based color shifts.
- Experience in using Wilcom, Pulse, AccuRIP, and Separation Studio
Success Indicators (first 3–6 months)
- 98%+ approval accuracy on first customer proof.
- Reduction in remake/rework due to art prep issues.
- Positive production feedback on sew/print readiness.
Tools & Systems
- Digitizing/separation software, border/MIS platform, shared asset libraries, and proofing/annotation tools. - Advantageous
