Mercari, Inc.

Mercari, Inc. operates a C2C marketplace application where users can buy and sell secondhand items with their smartphones. We established the company in February 2013 to plan, develop, and operate the “Mercari” flea market app. In 2019, we launched Merpay, a mobile payment service, followed by the B2C marketplace Mercari Shops in October 2021. Our cryptoasset exchange service, Mercoin, began in March 2023.

Mercari, Inc. (USA), a US subsidiary established in January 2014, plans, develops, and operates the “Mercari” C2C marketplace in the United States. Our group also includes Merpay, Inc. (financial services), Mercoin, Inc. (cryptoassets and blockchain), Mercari Software Technologies India Private Limited (internet service development), and Kashima Antlers F.C. Co., Ltd., which manages the professional soccer club Kashima Antlers.

Technically, we design, build, and operate ETL pipelines at scale and automate data product and machine learning workflows. We design data structures, build knowledge graphs, and develop APIs and tools for data and ML products using Big Data technologies like Python, Spark, and BigQuery. Our engineering teams also design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain mission-critical backend systems for a high-traffic marketplace, and create scalable microservices and event-driven architectures. Our projects include developing complex backend features like payment processing and inventory management.
