About Mission Bit
We founded Mission Bit in 2012 as an educational non-profit. We offer free computer science programs for high school students (ages 14-18) and career preparation for young adults (ages 17-24) in the Bay Area. Our programs include semester-long classes, introductory workshops and events, self-paced online courses, and the Tech Start program for career preparation. Classes can be in-person or remote.
We recruit primarily in specific neighborhoods in San Francisco, Oakland, and the East Bay, such as Bayview Hunters Point, Fruitvale, and West Oakland. So far, we’ve taught 561 courses, served 13,767 students, and provided 195,500 hours of coding instruction. About 97% of our students are students of color. We’ve received support from sponsors like Meta, Verizon, and Waymo.
