We’re an education technology company, founded in 2013 by Matthew Gross and Dan Cogan-Drew. We provide instructional content and assessment tools to help K-12 students learn effectively. Our platform offers engaging, relevant content designed for teachers.

Our products include subject-specific resources like Newsela ELA, Newsela Social Studies, and Newsela Writing. The platform has a library of over 18,000 fiction and nonfiction texts from more than 175 providers, offered at five reading levels to suit different student needs. We also include activities like quizzes, writing prompts, and ‘Power Words’ to help students improve their skills. Beyond content, we offer assessment tools, including Formative, which gives teachers real-time instruction and assessment data. Newsela Lite and Formative Teacher are available for free previews.

We’ve also introduced Luna, an AI-powered teaching assistant that helps with lesson planning, activity design, graphic organizer creation, and text differentiation. Our resources align with national and state standards for daily instruction and assessment. Around 90% of U.S. K-12 schools use our products, reaching over 47 million learners and 4 million teachers in all 50 states and over 150 countries. Our content is based on learning science principles and research.
