The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state.
The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State’s energy future. The NYISO’s Finance department invites applications for a full-time Settlements Analyst to join the team.
The Settlements Analyst conduct settlements-related process analyses, custom settlements-related software testing procedures, and provide settlements-related process analyses to support settlement rules development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform various development functions to support market design including:
- Participate in development cycle for settlements-related processes, which may include participation in requirements and supporting analysis, user acceptance testing and algorithm validation.
- Perform various development functions to support departmental processes including:
- Perform settlements results validation
- Develop responses to customer inquiries
- Conduct settlements-related training for NYISO staff
- Perform analyses to support settlement rule and process development.
- Develop and deliver training presentations to market participants on settlement rules, procedures, and settlement system changes.
- Compile, store and retrieve management data to support process development functions.
- Perform periodic and ad hoc reports and analyses.
- Special projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree (BS) Accounting, Business, Economics or Finance required; Master’s Degree (MS, MBA) preferred.
- Five years related analyst experience performing increasingly more complex and technical analyses; utility industry or market trading desired, ability to analyze large sets of data, familiarity with financial systems, NYISO or Market Participant experience a plus; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from Market Participants, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or Board of Directors.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Advanced competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, e-mail and internet programs. Intermediate proficiency in the Business Objects application required. Intermediate proficiency in PL Sequel a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Contact with staff and public will occur. Travel may be required to attend and/or conduct meetings, conferences and training. This position may require work on nights, weekends or holidays.

Salary Range
$71,000—$118,700 USD
