The Purpose:
As the Associate Director of Business Optimization, you will lead the strategic expansion of our global partnership ecosystem. Reporting to the VP of Payment Optimization, you’ll leverage your deep expertise in payment lifecycles and technical protocols - such as Tokenization, 3DS, and Smart Routing - to bridge the gap between issuers, acquirers, and schemes. Your mission: drive world-class performance through higher authorization rates and seamless conversion.
Your impact in this role:
Partnership Management: Establish and oversee partnerships across different stakeholders in the payment ecosystem. You will manage and empower team members who own local relationships, and build out a formula for successful interaction with partners. This involves regular communication and collaboration with acquirers to ensure smooth transaction processing, staying updated on card schemes’ policies to facilitate seamless card payment acceptance, fostering relationships with issuers, and developing partnerships with Local Payment Methods (LPMs) to optimize payment acceptance in specific regions by understanding local market dynamics..
Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of junior team members that will be responsible for specific partners.
Performance Analytics: Analyze and review performance data (declines, conversion rates) for each partner. Collaborating with internal stakeholders such as product, customer support, and technical teams to address underlying factors, implementing strategies to optimize transaction approval processes, and leveraging insights from A/B testing and partnerships with acquirers to improve authorization rates.
Cross-Functional collaboration: Collaborate with Product, Risk management, Partnerships, and other teams to launch performance enhancing products and features.
What would make you a great fit:
Experience: 6+ years in payments, fintech, or e-commerce with a relevant bachelor’s degree (MBA preferred).
Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of the payment lifecycle, card scheme regulations, and technical tools (Tokenization, 3DS, Smart Routing).
Strategy & Partnerships: Proven ability to build engagement strategies with issuers, acquirers, and Local Payment Methods (LPMs).
Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis to optimize transaction performance, decline reasons, and conversion rates.
Leadership: Experience mentoring and leading teams while collaborating across Product and Risk departments.
Languages: Fluency in English plus Spanish
