The team
The AI Platform Services (AIPS) teams build platforms and solutions that solve complex information problems and enable AI innovation across the SEEK Group. Our AI Platform Engineering teams provide shared infrastructure, governance, and reusable assets that empower AI and product teams to experiment safely, ship faster, and deliver intelligent experiences at scale.
Teams are cross-functional, multi-disciplinary squads operating within an APAC matrix organisational structure. We work in an Agile environment with regular standups, sprint ceremonies, and collaborative ways of working.
About the role
As a Lead Engineer at SEEK, you’ll be part of a fast-paced and supportive environment where you can make a real difference. You’ll work on complex challenges that have a direct impact on people’s lives, helping us evolve our business and reach new heights.
This role provides technical and people leadership within our AI Platform Engineering domain — managing, mentoring, and developing the engineers who build the platforms powering AI innovation across SEEK. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will partner closely with the Staff Platform Engineer on technical direction and collaborate with Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and product teams to deliver scalable, resilient AI platform solutions. You will have 3–6 direct reports.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a high-performing team through coaching, mentoring, career development, and a culture of safety, inclusivity, and engagement
- Drive delivery of AI platform systems from development through to production, ensuring high availability, resilience, and performance for production AI workloads
- Contribute to technical strategy for GenAI and ML platforms in close partnership with the Staff Platform Engineer
- Build and operate scalable AI infrastructure on AWS, leveraging Python and Infrastructure-as-Code
- Strengthen engineering practices and DevOps culture for AI platform operations, including incident management, on-call processes, and supporting documentation
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders including Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Architecture, and Security
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and retention of engineering talent
Qualifications
Skills and experience
- Direct line management experience of engineers, including coaching, mentoring, and career development
- Strong AWS infrastructure experience across compute, storage, networking, and security, with Infrastructure-as-Code practices
- Python proficiency for platform automation, tooling, and integrations
- Experience building and operating highly available, resilient production systems
- Demonstrated experience writing well-tested, readable software using secure coding practices, current patterns, and tooling
- Hands-on ML Engineering or MLOps experience, including GenAI/LLM platforms such as model inference, vector databases, RAG patterns, and AI Gateways, with multi-cloud experience beyond AWS (e.g. GCP/Vertex AI)
- SRE experience building and operating production platform systems, with a track record of enabling technical teams (Data Scientists, ML Engineers) through platform capabilities and experience recruiting and developing software engineers
