Strategic projects in pipeline for FY26 to create visibility and impact across the organisation.
About the role
A Staff Engineer at SEEK is a senior technical leader and a key driver of engineering excellence across teams and domains. You will set technical direction, establish and scale best practices, and ensure they are adopted consistently. You’ll shape technology roadmaps, influence architectural decisions across systems, and raise the bar on reliability, security, and performance. While you remain hands-on where it matters—particularly in complex design, critical reviews, and reference implementations—your primary focus is strategic technical leadership, enabling teams to deliver high-quality outcomes at scale, and coaching engineers at all levels.
This role provides a unique opportunity to drive the strategic direction of hirer journeys and platforms, build cohesive engineering practices across squads, and elevate the effectiveness of both senior and junior engineers through mentorship, technical guidance, and thought leadership.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive technology strategy, architectural principles, and multi-quarter roadmaps.
- Establish, codify, and ensure adoption of engineering best practices across teams.
- Lead critical design reviews and guide the architecture of scalable, secure distributed systems.
- Create high-leverage enablement (templates, libraries, tooling, docs) to standardize delivery.
- Coach and mentor senior and junior engineers; grow technical leaders and strong judgment.
- Uplift DevOps, reliability, security, and operational excellence (SLOs, on-call, post-incident).
- Align stakeholders on trade-offs and phased execution; influence across squads and domains.
Qualifications
Skills and experience
- Deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, React, and AWS operating production systems.
- Proven record leading cross-team technical outcomes and setting technical direction.
- Strong distributed systems architecture skills including reliability, performance, and security-by-design.
- Mastery of CI/CD, cloud-native development, IaC, observability, and API management at scale.
- Demonstrated ability to define standards and drive org-wide adoption via enablement and tooling.
- Excellent coaching and mentoring skills across levels; develops senior engineers and tech leads.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder influence, including with geographically distributed teams.
