The team
At SEEK, our AI Platform Services (AIPS) teams build platforms and solutions that solve complex information problems and enable AI innovation across the SEEK Group. Teams are cross-functional, multi-disciplinary squads that work within an APAC matrix organisational structure. The AI Platform Engineering teams have a specific mission to provide shared infrastructure, governance, and reusable assets that empower AI and product teams to experiment safely, ship faster, and continuously deliver intelligent, differentiated experiences at scale.
You will work with roles across the engineering spectrum from graduate to lead level, including Software Engineers, Engineering Managers, Heads of Engineering, Software Architects, Data Scientists, ML Engineers, Platform Engineers, Product Managers, Business Analysts, and Iteration Managers.
About the role
A Staff Platform Engineer is a technical lead and senior member within our AI Platform Services (AIPS) Engineering teams. You’ll be responsible for the technical strategy and direction of SEEK’s GenAI and ML Platforms, ensuring these systems are highly available, resilient, and enable AI innovation at scale. Embedded within a team, you’ll lead cross-team technical initiatives that influence AI platform strategy across AIPS and SEEK more broadly. Your primary focus is designing and building AI platform solutions that enable Data Scientists, Engineers, and product teams to deliver AI-powered experiences rapidly and safely. You bring in-depth technical understanding of AI platform infrastructure, multi-cloud architectures (AWS, GCP), and the operational requirements of GenAI and ML systems, while driving alignment of your team’s technical roadmap to SEEK’s overall AI strategy.
Responsibilities
- Design and evolve technical architecture for GenAI and ML platform systems, ensuring they are well-architected, highly available, and aligned with SEEK’s development practices and technical metrics
- Drive technical strategy that enables SEEK’s AI innovation at scale, leading architecture decisions for multi-cloud AI infrastructure (AWS, GCP) and aligning platform capabilities with business objectives
- Build and operate highly scalable, performant AI infrastructure using AWS and Python for platform automation, tooling, and integrations while exemplifying clean, well-tested, secure code
- Lead cross-team technical initiatives that influence AI platform strategy across AIPS, serving as the key point of contact for technical solutions and system interfaces
- Partner with Data Scientists and ML Engineers to enable self-service model development, deployment, and operation while strengthening engineering discipline through understanding of AI/ML operational requirements
- Support the Engineering Manager in capacity planning, risk management, and scoping of technical work while building strong relationships with Architecture, Security, and other AI platform teams
- Grow team member technical capabilities through coaching on AI/ML platform patterns and practices while fostering a culture of safety, inclusivity, and diversity
Qualifications
Skills and experience
- Proven experience as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or similar technical leadership role building and operating production platform systems at scale
- Strong expertise in cloud infrastructure and platform engineering, with deep hands-on experience in AWS services and multi-cloud architectures
- Advanced Python programming skills with demonstrated experience building platform automation, tooling, and integrations for highly scalable systems
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), container orchestration (Kubernetes), and observability tools for platform operations
- Track record of leading technical roadmaps and driving platform health initiatives aligned with key technical metrics and SRE principles
- Experience building platforms that enable self-service capabilities for engineering and data teams, with understanding of developer experience and platform adoption
- Hands-on MLOps or ML Engineering experience, GenAI/LLM platform knowledge (model inference, vector databases, RAG patterns), GCP/Vertex AI experience, or ML lifecycle tooling expertise are good to have, but not a must.
