JOB TITLE: Coordinator of Disability Resources
DEPARTMENT: Student Affairs
REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Disability Resources
SALARY: $68,500
SCHEDULE Monday- Friday, 2 days working from home, 3 days in the office
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Coordinates and provides accessibility and support services to students with disabilities. Develops and implements strategies to ensure and improve accessibility on campus, supports students with disabilities, provides resources, training, and consultation to faculty and staff; supervises the work of part-time, intern, or vendor service providers; and performs related work as required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinates the approval and implementation of reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities in accordance with disability laws (i.e. note-taking accommodations, exam accommodations, CART, sign language interpreting, and other accommodations)
- Conducts intake interviews with students seeking accommodations to determine eligibility and to assess their accessibility needs
- Reviews medical documentation to verify disability and need for reasonable accommodation(s)
- Works with the Associate Director and Disability Resources staff to advise prospective and current students, faculty, and staff of SVAโs support services for students with disabilities and disability accommodations
- Regularly meets with students individually to provide coaching and support to mitigate challenges related to disability (time management, communication, stress management, planning, organizing, prioritizing, etc.)
- Refers students to appropriate SVA resources (Student Health and Counseling, Writing Resource Center, etc.)
- Provides faculty and staff with appropriate information, training, and resources to implement or improve accessibility and supports for students with disabilities
- Facilitates student support groups (i.e. ,Socialization group, Learning Disabilities Group, etc.)
- Schedules and coordinates exam accommodations, including proctoring exams when necessary.
- Stays informed about the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and related law and OCR or DOJ rulings as they pertain to higher education and students with disabilities.
- Researches new assistive technologies and overall best practices and attends related training
- Develops and maintains communication with academic advisors, faculty, staff, and department chairs
- Assists the Associate Director in recruiting, scheduling, and supervising part-time or intern service providers. (ex. counseling/disability interns, student workers, vendors providing interpreting/CART services etc.)
- Performs administrative duties according to program guidelines: (ex. case notes, chart review, e-mail and phone interactions, obtaining and providing training, social media updates, outreach to students on leave, etc.)
- Works in conjunction with the Associate Director and DR Staff to coordinate all aspects of service delivery provided by Disability Resources
- Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masterโs degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Disability Services, Education, or a similar counseling field.
- Two years of experience working with individuals with disabilities in an educational or vocational setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Background or prior education in art is a plus.
- Certification or Licensure (where applicable) is preferred. (ex. CRC, LMHC, LMSW, LCSW, etc.)
- Prior work experience within higher education is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of disability law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
- Ability to multitask, self-motivate, and self-initiate tasks.
- Strong English writing and verbal skills. (bi/multi-lingual is a plus)
- Interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of reasonable accommodations and accessibility standards
- Knowledge of Disability types (physical, sensory, cognitive, psychological, chronic health)
- Knowledge of Confidentiality standards (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA as applicable)
- Knowledge of Case management and documentation best practices
- Knowledge in Crisis response and behavioral intervention protocols (as applicable)
- Ability to assess documentation and determine reasonable accommodations
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion
- Ability to balance compliance with individualized support
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to adapt to changing regulations, policies, and client needs
- Ability to support individuals in high-stress or crisis situations
- Ability to educate others while maintaining neutrality and respect
- Skills in Written communication (reports, accommodation letters, policy guidance)
- Skills in Data tracking, recordkeeping, and database management
- Skills in Training and presenting on disability awareness and compliance
- Skills in Time management and prioritization of caseloads
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Schedule: Full-time schedule (35 hrs per week), Monday - Friday, 9 am-5 pm EST. Exempt (salaried) position. The position will work 4 days on-site and 1 day remote.
- Location: 340 East 24th Street, 24th, Y NY 10010
- May be required to work additional hours outside of the regular work schedule. flexible evening and weekend hours as needed
- While working remotely, you will be required to maintain the same hours of work as would be performed in the office; follow the department’s procedures in completing assigned job tasks; and be available during the employeeโs working hours via the department’s established communication methods (i.e,. Google chat, Slack, phone, etc).
- Ability to work in an office environment, with a computer and office equipment.
