About Seattle Art Museum
Founded in 1933, we are a visual arts museum in the Pacific Northwest. We operate three locations: the Seattle Art Museum downtown, the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park, and the Olympic Sculpture Park on the downtown waterfront.
We connect art to life through special exhibitions, educational programs, and installations from our collection of about 25,000 objects from over 140 cultures. Our exhibits explore connections between the past and present across various cultures.
Our roots are in the Seattle Fine Art Society, founded in 1906. We opened our first dedicated building in 1933. Since then, we’ve expanded significantly, including a downtown facility in 1991, the reopening of the Seattle Asian Art Museum in 1994 and again in 2020, and the opening of the Olympic Sculpture Park in 2007.

We envision ourselves as Seattle’s museum for everyone, leading inclusively in creativity and connection. Our core values are:
- Belonging

Our culture prioritizes equity, diversity, and inclusion, with a strong focus on racial equity in the workplace.
