ABOUT SKYSPECS
At SkySpecs, our mission is to simplify renewable asset management so less can do more for the planet. SkySpecs is helping to make this possible by automating the operations and maintenance of wind farms using advanced robotics paired with our custom-built asset performance management software, Horizon.
SkySpecs launched the world’s first completely autonomous blade inspection product in 2016 with a custom-designed drone system. Since then, SkySpecs has inspected over 95,000 wind turbines in over 27 countries, becoming the world leader in understanding the health of turbine blades. Identifying issues with turbine blades is only the first step. In 2019 SkySpecs launched Horizon to be a platform for SkySpecs to offer a multi-layered solution for customers that includes: data collection, wind turbine blade engineering expertise, and a place for all stakeholders to collaborate to manage and analyze massive amounts of data, spot trends, and create plans for high-cost repair campaigns. In 2021, SkySpecs acquired two companies specializing in wind turbine drivetrain monitoring and financial management, further expanding our asset management portfolio. Ultimately, this will help reduce the cost and risk of operations for the industry.
WHAT WILL I BE GETTING MYSELF INTO?

This is an individual contributor role, so any candidate must be able to perform the tasks independently with minimal supervision. This role also involves working with teams in Europe and the USA, so the candidate must be flexible in their working hours.
IN A GIVEN WEEK, THE DATA ENGINEER WILL …
- Manage all ingestion of 3rd party data into our Horizon platform using our upload tools and/or scripts
- Manage all our data-related customer tasks, including blade swaps and metadata clean-ups
- Perform quality control on our data sets and ensure data is accurate and complete
- Work closely with our Data Science team and our TEI and RVM leads to support their data needs including data manipulation and reporting
- Identify, review and integrate third-party market data to improve the quality of internal data sets
- Support the delivery of analytic findings, presentations, and dashboards through SkySpecs’ Horizon platform focused on providing business value to customers.
- Lead discussions around technical priorities and pain points, offering solutions and support whenever possible.
MUST HAVES:
- BA/BS in Business, Engineering, or another technical/analytical field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in software services, data analytics, implementation, or technical analysis projects
- Strong proficiency in using SQL to query and manipulate relational databases
- Proficiency in Python and/or R for data analysis and experience in developing automated data management pipelines
- Experience working with APIs, especially GraphQL
- Experience working with cloud computing tools (e.g. AWS, Azure, etc.)
- Expertise using business intelligence tools such as Sisense or Tableau to perform analysis on large datasets to drive business value
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills to both internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple project tasks, timelines, and deliverables; effectively delegating responsibilities among team members
- Experience leading technical customer engagements

- Engineering or business management consulting practice experience
- MBA or MS in Engineering or similar technical business-focused master’s degree
- Renewable or wind energy asset management experience

- Experience working with non-trivial amounts of data (e.g. moving 10s of millions of records)
