We develop an AI-powered language learning application for conversational practice and personalized tutoring. Our core product, Speak Tutor, is an AI language tutor available ²⁴⁄₇. It offers instant feedback and guides users through structured lessons from beginner to fluent speaker, replicating a one-on-one tutor experience without needing a human.

We launched in South Korea in 2019, quickly becoming the top language learning app there. Today, our platform is used by learners in over 30 countries and supports more than 15 languages, including French, Spanish, English, Korean, Italian, and Japanese. The app has over 15 million downloads and a 4.8-star rating. We offer a 7-day free trial.

We’ve raised over $150 million in venture investment from firms like OpenAI, Accel, Founders Fund, and Khosla Ventures. Beyond the app, we design ESL/EFL learning experiences for global learners and create custom corporate learning solutions for businesses (S4B). We also do sales development and create content for platforms like TikTok to help us grow globally.

Our mission is to reinvent language learning. We aim to make language acquisition, especially speaking, radically more accessible. We believe learning a language can enhance life by connecting people with new cultures, improving economic conditions, and enriching experiences. Our core philosophy emphasizes speaking out loud as much as possible to achieve fluency.

Speak has a team of 130 people across offices in San Francisco (Jackson Square), Seoul (Seongsu), Tokyo (Shibuya, a sales hub), Taipei, and Ljubljana (an engineering office in the city center).

The company describes itself as a global family in a pet-friendly environment, complete with an official company dog named Lumie and a #pets Slack channel. The culture includes annual offsites and an active Slack community that uses custom emojis and memes. Many team members come from companies like Meta, Google, Doordash, Block, and Dropbox. The founders previously had their education app, Flashcards+, acquired by Chegg. The work environment supports asynchronous collaboration, especially for roles like QA.
