Stellar Development Foundation

We are the Stellar Development Foundation (SDF), a nonprofit organization founded in San Francisco in 2014. We develop software, primarily building the Stellar network. Stellar is an open-source blockchain designed for financial access, supporting payments across borders, asset tokenization, and decentralized finance (DeFi) solutions. It’s a public, decentralized blockchain that offers secure smart contracts and fast, scalable payments. Our goal is to provide a system for sending, saving, and receiving money with low fees.

Developers, financial institutions, fintech companies, wallet providers, enterprises, and innovators use Stellar to build financial applications. The network supports cash-to-crypto ramps in over 90 countries, has a total value locked (TVL) of over $145 million, settles transactions in 9.5 seconds, and averages $0.0007667 per transaction. Stellar is used for global remittances and tokenizing assets. We also offer developer grants and manage the Stellar Enterprise Fund, a venture fund that invests in or acquires companies to help the network grow.

Our mission is to create equitable access to the global financial system. We believe blockchain technology can unlock the world’s economic potential, and we aim for open-source financial access for everyone. We have a team of 51 to 200 employees, including technologists, scientists, designers, product developers, and marketers.
