Position Overview
The Vice President, Cash Flows & Capital Activity is responsible for strategic leadership and oversight of all fund-level capital activity and cash flow operations across StepStone-managed vehicles. This role leads the Fund Accounting Cash Flow teams and is accountable for the execution, governance, and continuous improvement of capital calls, distributions, investment funding, and related controls across asset classes. The Vice President serves as a senior point of coordination between Fund Accounting, Treasury Operations, Financial Reporting, Investment Operations, Capital Markets, tax teams, and third-party administrators, ensuring capital activity is executed accurately, timely, and in accordance with fund documents, investor requirements, and internal control standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership over all capital calls, distributions, investment funding, and expense-related cash flows across Private Equity, Secondaries, Real Estate, Infrastructure, Venture Capital, and Multi-Strategy Funds
- Establish clear ownership and accountability across asset-class-aligned Cash Flow teams
- Ensure consistency of processes across administrators, asset classes, and fund structures
- Act as the escalation point for complex, high-risk, or time-sensitive capital events
- Drive SOX-aligned controls, documentation standards, and review rigor for capital activity
- Oversee review and approval of allocation files, cash flow notices, ILPA templates, and supporting schedules
- Ensure accurate tracking of capital call receipts, missing wires, late payments, and follow-up with administrators and investors
- Serve as the final operational approver for capital activity wires prior to release, ensuring amounts, timing, allocations, and supporting documentation are accurate and consistent with approved notices and fund terms
- Own the cash flow control framework, including escalation protocols for missing, delayed, or misapplied cash
- Partner with internal teams on deal funding, closings, and timing dependencies
- Coordinate with tax teams on withholding, EFTPS payments, and jurisdiction-specific considerations
- Coordinate closely with Credit Operations where capital activity intersects with credit facilities
- Lead and develop a multi-layered Cash Flow organization, including senior managers, managers, and analysts aligned by asset class
- Set performance expectations, review work product, and provide coaching and mentorship
- Drive continuous improvement of cash tracking tools, dashboards, and reporting
- Partner on systems and automation initiatives to improve visibility and reduce manual risk
- Standardize best practices while accommodating asset-class-specific requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field; CPA preferred
- 8+ years of experience in fund accounting, treasury, or cash flow operations within private markets
- Deep expertise in capital calls, distributions, investment funding, and cash flow mechanics across complex fund structures
- Proven experience leading large, operationally intensive teams in a fast-paced environment
- Strong judgment and executive presence in high-stakes, time-sensitive situations
- Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally and influence senior stakeholders
Salary Range: 160,000 - $170,000
The salary range is an estimate of pay for this position. Actual pay may vary depending on job-related factors that can include location, education, skill, and experience. The salary range does not include any benefits or other forms of possible compensation that may be available to employees.
