Position Overview
This position supports the day‑to‑day tax operations of the Company’s Private Credit fund vehicles, with coordination with colleagues covering Private Equity, Infrastructure, and Real Estate strategies. The role is responsible for reviewing the work of external tax vendors and collaborates closely with the Fund Accounting, Legal, Investor Services, and Investment teams. This position reports to the Tax Managing Director, Fund Tax Compliance.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage investment fund tax compliance from start to finish – preparation of federal and state tax returns and tax estimates by external providers and distribution of K-1s to investors.
- Coordinate with financial reporting and external tax advisors in the preparation of non-U.S. tax returns for investment vehicles, as required.
- Assist client teams and external tax advisors to respond to tax related client inquiries.
- Manage preparation and dissemination of IRS withholding forms, often including treaty claims, and review of Forms 1042-S received to identify over withholding.
- Knowledge of informational filings and elections, including Forms 926, 5471, 5472, 8832, 8621, 8865, and 8886.
- Identify and review US withholding tax requirements relating to income allocations to foreign recipients including FDAP, ECI, and prepare necessary tax filings (Form 1042 and 8804).
- Preparation of Forms 1099 and TD F 90-22.1 (FBAR) (as necessary).
- Collaborate with the FATCA and CRS compliance team to ensure StepStone Private Credit funds are included in applicable regulatory reporting and filing processes.
- Assist in the creation and dissolution of fund entities, including blocker corporations.
- Assist external providers to prepare annual tax provisions for blocker corporations.
- Manage notices from federal, state and foreign taxing authorities.
- Provide training, technical tax assistance and periodic updates on tax operations to members of Private Credit operations.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Minimum four-year degree.
- 6+ years of Big Four/private accounting experience in the tax asset management industry, with a concentration in Private Credit.
- Excellent team player with a strong work ethic.
- Strong project management and time management, able to prioritize, follow through on commitments, and manage multiple workstreams.
- Strong computer skills, including an advanced knowledge of Excel, and a willingness to implement new systems and processes including AI and automation.
- Must be highly organized, with an attention to detail especially in workpapers and tax filings.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills.
Other Attributes:
- CPA or JD, a plus.
Salary Range: $130,000 - $160,000
The salary range is an estimate of pay for this position. Actual pay may vary depending on job-related factors that can include location, education, skill, and experience. The salary range does not include any benefits or other forms of possible compensation that may be available to employees.
