Swiftly, Inc. Logo
A transit data platform for public transportation agencies to manage operations and passenger information.

About Swiftly, Inc.

We started Swiftly in 2014 to build software for public transportation and urban mobility. Our transit data platform helps agencies share real-time passenger information, manage daily operations, and improve service. Over 200 transit agencies in 12 countries, including LA Metro, MARTA, SEPTA, MBTA, and WMATA, use our platform.

Our platform analyzes billions of data points to generate accurate vehicle location and movement information. Our main products are Transitime for real-time passenger information, Metronome for real-time vehicle operations, and Insights for historical transit data. These tools provide features like vehicle predictions, rider alerts, real-time fleet visibility, and historical trend analysis. We also offer integrations and APIs to monitor real-time data quality.

We help agencies increase on-time performance by up to 40%, improve passenger information accuracy by up to 50%, and analyze transit data 90% faster. Our solutions give riders up-to-the-second trip information, help improve on-time performance with real-time adjustments, allow faster planning with data visualizations, optimize schedules using historical data, and enable customer service teams to answer questions quickly.

Our global operations support 2.4 billion passenger trips per year and serve over 11,500 transit professionals. We have offices in San Francisco, CA.

Mission & Values

Our mission is to improve how cities move. We build tools to address transportation challenges and make public transit a fast, frequent, and appealing alternative to private vehicles. We aim to deliver reliable transit to help cities move more efficiently.

Core values that guide our work include:

  • Team: We balance collaboration and individual ownership, supporting each other.
  • Communication: We encourage open, generous, and feedback-oriented interactions, where all questions are welcome.
  • Feedback: We promote constructive postmortems without blame, focusing on user needs.
  • Growth: We encourage professional development and continuous learning, focused on solving meaningful problems.
  • Diversity: We are committed to an inclusive and supportive environment that celebrates varied backgrounds and opinions.
  • Impact: We are driven by a shared passion for improving transit, fostering a positive and collaborative atmosphere, and recognizing individual achievements.

Team & Culture

We have 51-200 employees and are committed to diversity; about half our team identifies as female. Our co-founders Jonny Simkin, Michael Smith, and Will Dayton lead us. Our leadership team also includes a Chief Commercial Officer & CFO, Chief Customer Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Product Officer, Chief Transit Officer, and VP, People.

Our culture is mission-driven, curious, and dedicated to urban mobility. We describe our operations as intentional, thoughtful, and mature, providing a stable startup environment. We are a remote-first, distributed workforce across the U.S. and parts of Canada, emphasizing collaboration and individual ownership.

Transparency is important to us. Our executive leadership provides weekly updates and hosts ‘Ask Me Anything’ (AMA) sessions. Frequent 1:1 communication and a strong culture of feedback are crucial for employee growth. We are customer-centric. Our product, engineering, design, and transit agency partners collaborate closely to solve problems.

Life at Swiftly includes programs to build community and well-being: mission-driven activities like volunteer happy hours and charity matching, virtual team gatherings using social apps, and monthly stipends for education and home office expenses. We offer weekly online yoga sessions and ‘Brain Trains’ for internal knowledge sharing and guest speakers. We also have pet-friendly policies and a Culture Committee that develops initiatives like a Pronoun Policy and Slack best practices. Our affinity groups—such as La Guagua (for Latinx employees), Swiftly Parents, SWiFT (for women-identifying, femme, transgender, and non-conforming employees), and Queer Swifters—provide dedicated spaces for support and conversation.

Benefits & Perks

We offer a competitive salary and equity compensation to all employees. Our benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage (with inclusive fertility and family-planning options), a retirement plan with employer match (401(k)/RRSP), and a flexible spending account (FSA).

We support a flexible work environment with flexible PTO (and a recommended minimum), 16 paid holidays (including months without US national holidays), and 8 weeks of fully paid leave for childbirth or adoption. For remote work, we offer home office setup reimbursement and monthly cell/internet reimbursement. Employees also receive a monthly ‘Be Well’ stipend. We provide educational reimbursement and cover travel for in-person company or team offsites, typically 1–2 times per year.
