The Patrick J. McGovern Foundation

We are the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation (PJMF), established in 2014. We are a philanthropic organization focused on using artificial intelligence and data science for social impact. Our goal is to help create a fair and sustainable future by partnering with public, private, and social institutions. We tackle issues like digital health, climate change, digital access, and improving how the social sector uses data.

We provide technology, funding, and AI expertise to organizations working for social change. So far, we’ve supported 144 groups. Our work involves exploring and developing AI and data science to improve lives, strengthen non-profit impact with technology, and advocate for ethical digital practices.

We also build cloud-based tools that turn machine learning insights into useful applications for the social sector. This includes designing, developing, and deploying complete solutions, from cloud infrastructure to user interfaces. Additionally, we research potential grant partners, conduct due diligence, prepare grant materials, and track developments in the AI and data for good field.

Our mission is to use artificial intelligence and data science to help create a fair and sustainable future for everyone. We believe it’s urgent to develop and apply technology ethically for the common good, connecting AI, data science, and social impact.

We have a team of 11-50 employees. We cultivate an inclusive and equitable workplace, seeing ourselves as a community dedicated to making a difference. All our employees work remotely across the United States. We are a community of experienced, socially conscious professionals. Our team structure often involves small, high-trust or startup-like teams. We focus on mentorship, hands-on contributions, and developing individual ownership. We collaborate with data scientists, platform engineers, software development engineers, DevOps engineers, and nonprofit partners, and we value diverse perspectives and contributions.

We offer foundation-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees, spouses/domestic partners, and dependents. This includes HSA/FSA plans, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability coverage. Employees also participate in a 401(k) retirement plan with matching up to 6% of annual pay, plus an additional discretionary match at year-end.

We provide flexible PTO, 11 paid national holidays, and sometimes extra paid days off. As a 100% remote team, we give employees a monthly stipend to cover costs like phone, internet, or co-working space. Wellness support includes access to Ginger, Gympass, Headspace, and SmartSpend Plus, along with financial well-being services. We also offer up to 6 months of gender-neutral paid leave for parents and caregivers. Annual learning support is available for development through peer learning, internal training, external activities, and student loan assistance. Our philanthropic gift matching program supports eligible charitable donations 1:1 up to $1,000 per year. We offer competitive salaries.
