Eliminates non-CO₂ super pollutants like refrigerants, halons, and methane, creating carbon offset credits.

About Tradewater

We are a certified B Corp founded in 2016, operating in environmental services. We identify, collect, and eliminate non-CO₂ super pollutants to combat climate change. Our work focuses on refrigerants found in old appliances, excess halon gases, and methane from actively leaking orphaned oil and gas wells.

Our efforts generate carbon offset credits that are backed by third-party verification and issued by registries. Our global team targets halocarbons and methane. Halocarbons, despite being banned from production by the Montreal Protocol, still exist in large volumes globally and are at risk of release. We collect and destroy these, starting with R-12 CFCs and expanding projects across four continents. For methane, we identify and permanently plug leaking orphaned and uncontrolled oil and gas wells in the United States. Methane has a high global warming potential compared to CO₂.

Our climate action has eliminated the equivalent of 10.6 million tons of CO2, and we aim to reach 30 million tons by 2030. We provide verified, high-quality carbon credits to help businesses and individuals achieve their climate goals. We offer programs for individuals, small businesses (through a carbon neutral collective), and large enterprises (partnership programs).

Our origins trace back to 2012 when co-founder Tim Brown began purchasing ozone-depleting substances (ODS). We officially founded Tradewater in 2016 with Gabe Plotkin, opening offices in Chicago and San Jose, Costa Rica in 2019.
