About U.S. Digital Response
We are a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization founded in 2020, partnering with state, local, and tribal governments across nearly 50 U.S. states and territories. We help them modernize essential digital services and strengthen government services by offering expert support, practical training, and proven digital tools.
We place experienced, pro-bono technologists with governments to help deliver critical services and infrastructure, especially during crises. Our work focuses on areas like generative AI, procurement, talent, language access, user experience, benefits, and elections.
When we work with a government, we start by listening to understand their unique challenges. Then, seasoned professionals join their teams to co-design digital infrastructure and create sustainable systems.
We have completed over 600 partnerships, impacting 50% of Americans. All our government partners would recommend us, and 45% have partnered with us more than once.
Most of our projects are pro-bono, funded by philanthropy and supported by volunteer experts. We do offer some paid products and services for specialized needs. Projects typically run 2-4 months, with volunteers starting within 2-4 weeks. Government partners usually need to commit about one hour per week from their team.
Mission & Values
Our mission is to partner with governments to modernize how they serve communities. We do this by providing expert talent, proven methods and tools, and unbiased guidance. This helps ensure people receive services that work when needed.
We envision a future where communities trust governments to deliver. Our core principles include serving at the “speed of need,” avoiding “tech saviorism,” and delivering “demos, not memos.”
We are a nonpartisan, product-agnostic nonprofit. We lead with humility, work quickly, and aim to create lasting change. Every staff member and volunteer takes a Community Oath, committing to lead with humility, respect public servants, and serve all communities with nonpartisan dedication.
Team & Culture
Our core staff of 11-50 employees works alongside a community of over 11,000 skilled volunteers. Our staff includes engineers, developers, marketers, researchers, project managers, and policy experts who oversee and advise project teams.
Our volunteers are experienced professionals from diverse backgrounds, such as product/project management, data analysis and visualization, UX research, UX design, service design, engineering strategy, content strategy, people operations, and bilingual UX, service design, and content strategists. The team brings together deep government experience and technical expertise.
Our culture is nonpartisan, fast, and free. Employees and volunteers are empathetic, communicative, and organized. They use an agile, iterative approach to find human-centric solutions with government partners.
Our work environment is fully remote for US-based employees. We offer flexible schedules and focus on impact through collaboration and hands-on delivery.
Benefits & Perks
We offer competitive salaries ranging from $140,000 to $165,000 for a 32-hour work week. We provide full health, dental, and vision benefits, covering 100% for employees and 80% for dependents.
