About Understood.org

We are a nonprofit founded in 2014, dedicated to supporting individuals in the United States who learn and think differently. We provide free resources for people with learning and thinking differences like ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, executive functioning issues, processing issues, nonverbal learning disabilities, and social/emotional issues.\n\nOur resources include articles, podcasts, and community groups, offering information, parenting advice, and a platform for expert guidance. These are developed with input from professionals across education, mental health, medicine, activism, and public policy. We also offer “Through My Eyes,” an immersive platform showing what it’s like for children with ADHD, dyslexia, and dyscalculia.\n\nEach year, we help over 20 million people. We partner with organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Our work has been covered by publications including CBS, Forbes, and USA Today. We also provide workplace resources to help organizations become more neuroinclusive.

Mission & Values

Our mission is to shape the world for people in the United States who learn and think differently. We provide reliable tools and information to help people thrive. By 2030, we aim to help 100 million people by creating systems that celebrate individual differences.\n\nWe measure our impact using a framework called SPARC, which looks at five areas: Self-concept (how people view themselves and their accomplishments), Purpose (their intentions and connections), Autonomy (their freedom to make choices), Relationships (their sense of belonging), and Capacity (their ability to achieve things). We are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Understood.org has 51-200 employees. The work environment is hybrid, requiring in-office presence in NYC at least three days per week, usually Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. The organization is mission-driven, focused on its commitment to shaping the world for difference.\n\nEmployees collaborate across teams in an environment that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. The culture emphasizes connecting detailed findings with strategic objectives, using data for decisions, and finding efficiencies through technology, including AI tools.

Benefits & Perks

We offer a full benefits package to support our team members and their families. This includes medical, dental, vision, and fertility coverage.\n\nWe provide retirement benefits with matching contributions and immediate vesting.
