Join Medtech-iQ Tāmaki Makaurau as a Research Engagement Advisor and play a hands-on role in connecting people, ideas, and partnerships that turn research into real-world impact.

  • Help build a growing MedTech innovation ecosystem across Aotearoa

This is a unique opportunity to be part of work that contributes directly to New Zealand’s healthcare and economic development, helping advance medical technologies from idea through to impact.

You’ll support the delivery of engagement and partnership activities, working closely with the Directors and stakeholders to enable collaboration, support programme delivery, and lift the visibility of MedTech initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Contribute and support the development of engagement strategies and plans for Medtech-iQ Tāmaki Makaurau at the University of Auckland.
  • Coordinate activities across clinical and research groups, PhD students, and senior stakeholders
  • Coordinate and support delivery of professional development programmes (e.g. regulatory workshops), strategic initiatives, events and an annual conference
  • Engage with stakeholders including investors, companies, research groups and clinical professionals
  • Contribute to and/or lead networking events and wider community engagement
  • Organise meetings (agendas, minutes, documentation, follow-ups)
  • Develop, format, and maintain marketing collateral across digital platforms and websites.

This is a fixed-term, full-time (37.5 hours per week) role through to 31 December 2027 due to role funding.  Salary: Band G – $87,000 to $107,500 per annum depending on skills and experience.

Location: 70 Symonds Street, City Campus, Auckland, hybrid working conditions with a mix of on-campus and remote working, supporting flexibility and collaboration.

Medtech-iQ Tāmaki Makaurau is the Auckland hub of Medtech-iQ Aotearoa, New Zealand’s national MedTech innovation network. Hosted by the Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI), we connect researchers, clinicians, students, entrepreneurs and industry to turn ideas into real-world health and economic outcomes.

As we move into our next phase of growth, we’re expanding partnerships, building capability across the University, and strengthening a connected innovation ecosystem.

You will report to the Medtech-iQ Tamaki Makaurau Strategic Partnerships Director and join a small, high-performing, and collaborative team. The team is supportive, experienced, and works closely with a wider national and international network, giving you exposure to senior stakeholders and diverse perspectives.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with people, building relationships, and contributing to meaningful, high-impact work.

You’re collaborative and confident, able to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, from researchers and clinicians through to industry and investors. You’re equally comfortable working as part of a team and taking ownership of your work independently.

You bring a practical, organised approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

You will bring:

  • Preferably at least  2 years’ experience in industry, healthcare, hospitals, or a related setting
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, programme coordination, or similar roles
  • Strong relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience developing and delivering engagement or communication activities
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach with strong planning and coordination skills
  • Confidence working with senior stakeholders
  • A structured, process-driven approach with strong attention to detail
  • Advanced document‑formatting skills to create clear, accessible, and visually cohesive reports, presentations, and written materials aligned with organisational brand and style guidelines.

You’ll also have:

  • An understanding of medical technology development, commercial pathways, or clinical translation
  • Exposure to research, innovation, or commercialisation environments
  • Good data analytic skills to support impact reporting
  • The ability to use insights to inform decisions and improve outcomes

Most importantly, you bring a positive attitude, curiosity, and willingness to learn. You enjoy contributing to a team that is doing meaningful work and are ready to get involved and make an impact.
