Your Role:

Reporting to the Director, People – Operations & Farms, the Manager, People will act as the head of People for our newest processing site, Vital Crossroads (VXR). The Manager, People will lead a team of direct reports and cross-functional partners to ensure our crew in Seymour experience a consistent Vital Farms experience, rooted in our Values.

The Manager, People will drive leadership excellence, steward our unique culture, and champion improvement initiatives, all while ensuring our practices are top-notch. The hallmarks of this position include strong business acumen, cultivating positive coaching relationships, approaching challenges with curiosity, and the ability to quickly build credibility with crew.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the local People team to champion crew engagement, deliver outstanding service, and create a positive, people-first workplace experience.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization to cultivate an inclusive, engaging, and inspiring culture through strategic programs and leadership partnership.
  • Welcome new crew by ensuring a smooth onboarding experience—overseeing orientation, providing guidance to new hires and their managers, and managing compliance and systems training.
  • Advocate for our crew and coach our supervisors by applying your knowledge of our company values, policies, and local laws to ensure compliance and consistency.
  • Partner with the Director, People and legal to investigate employee relations concerns, resolve issues with care, and translate learnings into preventive actions that mitigate future risk.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to leaders and crew members on matters related to pay, benefits, policies, and general support.
  • Foster engagement and visibility by working a flexible schedule that supports meaningful connections with all crews.
  • Support recruiting efforts by partnering with Talent Acquisition, participating in interviews, and building relationships with community partners to attract top talent.
  • Support ongoing crew growth through development initiatives and performance management processes, in partnership with the Learning and Development team.
  • Partner with payroll and frontline leaders to help ensure the accuracy of timekeeping records.
  • Utilize the HRIS to run reports, resolve crew system issues, and maintain accurate employee records.
  • Manage and continuously improve key People processes including attendance tracking and leave of absence administration, ensuring compliance, consistency, and minimal disruption to production operations. • Continuously improve engagement and People team operations by building scalable processes, policies, and programs that align with business growth and People team strategy.
  • Protect our crew and our company by keeping confidential information confidential.
  • Act like an owner—jump in to support projects and initiatives as needed.
  • Identify early workforce risks during ramp (e.g., attrition spikes, overtime fatigue, leadership capability gaps, skill shortages) and proactively mitigate through data-driven insights, cross-functional partnership, and timely escalation to site and enterprise leaders.
  • Partner with EHS and Operations to ensure safety culture is deeply integrated into onboarding and leadership expectations.
  • Stand up site-level People processes including onboarding workflows, compliance documentation, timekeeping discipline, and reporting cadence.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in the People function; experience leading a team required; experience leading a matrixed team a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting a high-volume, shift-based workforce in a fast-paced operational environment; must be able to work variable shifts on-site within a 24-hour facility as business needs require.
  • Demonstrated experience with HRIS/payroll system required.
  • Must have above-average Microsoft Office skills including Excel, Outlook, and Word, curiosity around exploring new systems and platforms to enable more effective and efficient work.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through with experience in managing multiple projects and priorities
  • Strong coaching capability, particularly with frontline supervisors and leaders.
  • Experience supporting safety initiatives in partnership with EHS teams.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% during the first year for training and ramp up; ~10–15% thereafter.

At Vital Farms, compensation decisions are dependent upon a variety of factors, which may include, but are not limited to, skill level, experience, education, training, market demands, and business needs. A reasonable estimate of the current starting annual base salary for this position is $115,000 - $125,000. Please keep in mind that hiring at the maximum end of the range would not be typical in order to allow for potential continued future salary growth.
