Commitment: 20–25 hours/week
Hourly Rate: $55/hr
Reporting: Reports to in-house Marketing Lead during transition; shifts to CRO + senior leadership team during leave

A Midwest-based diagnostics and laboratory services company operating at the intersection of testing innovation, technology, and regulatory compliance. The organization develops and distributes rapid drug testing products, including oral fluid and urine-based solutions, serving employers, healthcare providers, government agencies, and background screening partners across the U.S. The marketing team supports both commercial and clinical audiences, working closely with sales, product, and external agency partners.

About the Role
This company is seeking an experienced, adaptable marketing professional to serve as interim marketing support while their in-house marketing lead is on leave. This role is a marketing generalist meets project manager who can independently run established initiatives, manage agencies and vendors, coordinate across internal teams, and handle hands-on marketing execution as needed.
While many projects are already in motion, there will also be opportunities to shape priorities, recommend improvements, and introduce new ideas. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with informal or evolving processes and brings a thoughtful, solutions-oriented approach to ambiguous situations.
This role is about maintaining momentum, supporting the business, and keeping marketing running smoothly. For the right person, it’s also a chance to step into a high-impact, trusted role with visibility across the organization and room to make meaningful contributions.
Prioritized Responsibilities
Project Management & Execution
- Own and advance existing marketing projects, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and goals stay on track
- Prioritize incoming requests and marketing needs during the coverage period
- Act as central point of coordination between internal stakeholders and external partners
- Execute independent marketing work when needed (examples may include email campaigns, social media posting and monitoring, press releases, website updates, sales enablement support, light reporting, etc.)
- Partner with sales reps and other stakeholders on logistics and materials for events
- Cover day-to-day marketing needs that arise, from start to finish
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, messaging, or execution, and share ideas, insights, and recommendations where appropriate
- Other tasks and projects as they arise
Agency & Vendor Management
- Manage external marketing agencies and vendors, including a primary UK-based agency partner
- Create and communicate clear briefs, scopes, and expectations
- Review, provide feedback on, and approve deliverables (with input from internal team)
- Track retainers and hours; review and route invoices in coordination with Finance
Collateral & Asset Management
- Create new marketing assets and update existing collateral (presentations, one-pagers, flyers, decks, documents, website, etc.) as needed – sometimes independently (using Canva, Adobe Acrobat, etc.) and sometimes with agency support
- Maintain an organized asset library with clear version control, working with the Compliance team and distributing new/updated assets as needed
Qualifications
Who You Are
5+ years of experience in a marketing generalist, marketing manager, or similar role
Strong project management skills; comfortable juggling multiple initiatives at once
Experience managing agencies and external partners
Highly organized, proactive, and comfortable working with informal or evolving processes
Thoughtful and solutions-oriented; able to navigate ambiguity and bring clarity without waiting for it
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with compliance review workflows is a plus (not required)
Must have: Microsoft (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint), Canva, LinkedIn
Nice to have: Adobe (Acrobat, Illustrator), Asana, Salesforce, Pardot, WordPress, Figma
Candidates who are strong on the fundamentals but less familiar with some of the “nice to have” tools are encouraged to apply. There will be an overlap period for onboarding and knowledge transfer, and internal team members can support on technical tasks in some platforms.
