Summary

We are seeking a creative and strategic Internal Communications Generalist to join our team. Reporting to the Director, Internal Communications, you will collaborate closely with various teams within the Foundation to craft and deliver messaging and opportunities to staff that foster employee engagement and support our organizational goals. Your work will include creating written and visual content to support messaging across our existing internal channels, as well as supporting the Internal Communications team to develop new and dynamic content and platforms for the organization (e.g., videos, blog posts, newsletter). You will also assist the Internal Communications team in coordinating different engagement opportunities for staff. You will help to foster a positive, inclusive culture while ensuring consistent, clear messaging that resonates with staff across the organization.

The ideal candidate

A passionate storyteller and strategic communicator who can juggle multiple tasks, including responding to time-sensitive requests. You are experienced in creating written, visual, and digital content that is compelling and simplifies complex ideas for a diverse staff audience. You are equally comfortable with supporting the coordination and logistics of engagement sessions and opportunities. You are organized, detail-oriented, and committed to contributing to a culture of openness and inclusivity through effective communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Create diverse content formats, such as articles, videos, blogs, updates, and internal newsletters, to engage staff and reinforce our culture.
  • Collaborate with the Internal Communications Lead to create communication plans that support messaging and key Foundation initiatives.
  • Support the coordination of internal events and engagement opportunities for staff.
  • Edit and proofread content to maintain clarity, consistency, and alignment with various messaging.

Skills and experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in content writing, corporate communications, or a related field.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a talent for creating engaging content.
  • Experience in developing content across multiple formats, including video and graphics.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain high-quality standards.
  • Strong organizational skills, including managing content calendars.
  • Knowledge of best practices in internal communications to drive employee engagement.

The Wikimedia Foundation is a remote-first organization with staff members including contractors based 40+ countries *. Salaries at the Wikimedia Foundation are set in a way that is competitive, equitable, and consistent with our values and culture. The anticipated annual pay range of this position for applicants based within the United States is US$36/hour to US$56/hour with multiple individualized factors, including cost of living in the location, being the determinants of the offered pay. For applicants located outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire. We neither ask for nor take into consideration the salary history of applicants. The compensation for a successful applicant will be based on their skills, experience and location.
