Location: Cape Town
Working Practices: Hybrid | Mondays and Thursdays in office and remaining days remote.
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: 07H00AM - 15H30PM (SAST)
Job summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled hands-on WordPress Developer to lead the development, deployment, and optimisation of our public-facing websites and supporting technology infrastructure. You’ll work directly with internal stakeholders and cloud platforms to ensure seamless, secure, and high-performance digital experiences.
In this role, you won’t just guide — you’ll build. You’ll be deep in the codebase, configuring infrastructure, managing deployments, and solving technical challenges every day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain custom WordPress themes and plugins.
- Implement responsive, accessible front-end code using HTML5, CSS3/Sass, and JavaScript.
- Integrate REST APIs and other data sources into WordPress builds.
- Support site performance, SEO optimisation, and WCAG accessibility compliance.
- Configure and manage CDN integrations (e.g., Cloudflare or CloudFront).
- Assist in configuring and maintaining WordPress hosting environments.
- Use Git for version control and collaborate with other developers through code reviews and feature branches.
Technical Expertise (Hands-On Experience):
- Proficient in PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
- Experience developing WordPress themes and plugins.
- Familiarity with WP-CLI, database management, and server optimisation.
- Experience working with version control (Git).
- Strong understanding of front-end performance and SEO best practices.
- Experience with CDN tools and DNS configurations.
Beneficial to have:
- Exposure to cloud platforms like AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda).
- Experience in Linux environments and shell scripting.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
- Familiarity with tools like Webpack, Gulp, or Grunt.
Skills
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Proactive, adaptable, and willing to learn.
- Self-starter with a builder’s mindset — you take ownership, dive into code, and get things done.
- Comfortable translating tech speak for non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving, prioritisation, and organisational skills.
- Clear communicator, both written and verbal, with a collaborative, proactive attitude.
