Founded in 1999, we are a software development company. We build two main products: Basecamp, our project management and communication platform for growing businesses, and HEY, an email service. We are independent, self-funded, and profitable.

Our core principles are the “signals” that drive us. We believe small teams can accomplish big things. Our values include doing exceptional work, building novel and straightforward products, experimenting, paying attention to details, treating people right, telling the truth, teaching, giving back, and continuous learning.

We are a fully-remote company with 51-200 employees across several continents. Our employees choose where they live and work. We maintain a calm, focused work environment with fewer meetings, minimal email, and fewer interruptions. Our employees typically work 8-hour days, 40-hour weeks. Teams are usually small, independent, and work in six-week cycles. Everyone takes turns on company-wide support. We also gather in person twice a year. We look for people who are friendly, thoughtful, eager to learn, conscientious, and supportive. While we respect employees’ political expression, internal communication is kept free of political debates. We do not publicly engage in politics beyond topics directly related to our business.
