We founded AAPC in 1988 to train and certify medical coders, initially for physicians’ offices. Since then, we have grown to include training and credentials in documentation, coding audits, regulatory compliance, and physician practice management.

We have over 275,000 healthcare professional members worldwide, with more than 150,000 certified. This network includes billing, coding, auditing, and practice management professionals. We offer software and services to healthcare organizations, providing training, accreditation, and tools to help optimize revenue.

Our certifications cover the business side of provider care. These include physician coding (CPC®), hospital outpatient facility (COC®), hospital inpatient facility (CIC®), risk adjustment coding (CRC®), payer perspective coding (CPC-P®), and practice management (CPPM™). These credentials show practical knowledge that leads to cleaner claim submissions, faster reimbursement, fewer denials, and better practice management. We also offer specialty coding credentials in 20 different fields.

We provide continuing education through local chapters, workshops, webinars, our monthly newsmagazine Healthcare Business Monthly, other publications, and conferences. We develop medical coding and billing courses, certification exams, study guides, and software like Codify.

We conduct workforce analytics for the non-clinical healthcare sector, analyzing labor markets, role classifications, skills, and workforce trends. We are also developing AI-powered products and an internal AI platform to streamline customer workflows. Our operational efforts cover Professional Audit, Revenue Cycle, Risk Adjustment, and CDI.
