Job purpose

The Senior Tax Accountant plays a key role in delivering exceptional tax services and strengthening client relationships. This role combines hands-on tax preparation with higher-level technical review, proactive planning, and mentorship of staff. The Senior Tax Accountant acts as a trusted advisor, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and thoughtful guidance that supports clients’ goals year-round.

Duties and responsibilities

As a BELAY Team member, you will professionally represent the company in all virtual and in-person interactions. You are expected to exemplify our mission, vision, and core values daily, fostering a collaborative and positive team environment.

Client Service & Relationship Management

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, delivering timely, high-quality service
  • Prepare and review complex individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns
  • Conduct tax planning and projections for individuals and businesses throughout the year
  • Research and resolve tax issues, including correspondence with the IRS and state agencies
  • Identify and recommend tax-saving opportunities and process improvements
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with clients and internal teams

Technical Expertise & Review

  • Review tax returns and workpapers prepared by staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Support Tax Managers and Director with technical research and special projects
  • Stay current on tax law changes, ensuring clients and team members are informed of relevant updates

Team Support & Mentorship

  • Provide guidance and feedback to staff accountants, promoting professional growth and development
  • Assist in training team members on technical and procedural topics
  • Share best practices and identify opportunities to enhance team efficiency and quality

Process & Workflow Management

  • Manage multiple client projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail
  • Maintain accurate time tracking, workflow updates, and documentation in firm systems
  • Contribute ideas for improving internal processes and leveraging technology for efficiency

Qualifications

This role requires a motivated and trustworthy self-starter with strong communication and technological skills who thrives both independently and on a team. Our ideal corporate team member is flexible, creative, well-organized, and ready to roll up their sleeves to get the job done!

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • 4-6 years of progressive tax accounting experience, ideally in a public accounting or client service environment

  • Strong understanding of federal and state tax laws, financial statements, and accounting principles

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under deadlines

  • Excellent communication skills, with a professional and client-service-oriented approach

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working independently or collaboratively

  • Proficient in QuickBooks Online, tax preparation software, Excel, and workflow management tools

  • Preferred but not required:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation

  • Experience supporting small businesses and startups

  • Familiarity with Thomson Reuters UltraTax

  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online

Working conditions

BELAY offers full-time remote work, requiring a dedicated, distraction-free home office for standard Monday-Friday business hours, with occasional travel for some roles.
